The sound quality is poor; I have to tell callers to lower their voice or they sound distorted.This phone is used as an extension in one of my bedrooms; so I'll keep it but it's just for convenience sake so I can answer the phone if it rings while I'm in that room. This phone is not made for long conversations. I guess you get what you pay for when you buy a $10.00 phone.

(More customer reviews)I don't know what higher priced phones offer, but this one sure fills the bill.One thing of note is that the Caller ID display is powered by 4 AA batteries.Compensating for that is that there is no AC/DC transformer to plug in.Just plug in the phone lines and you're ready to go.The display contrast can be increased if needed, but the default display works just fine for us.Setup and memory features are intuitive and easy to use.

(More customer reviews)There may be better cordless phones but this had the right combo of required features that were hard to match in other products - it supports 2 lines, caller ID, has an alert light for phone company voicemail, had a keypad on both the base and the handset, speakerphone, etc.Also, it uses 2.4Ghz channel 1 and to date it hasn't conflicted with my two 802.11 Wi-Fi network access points running on channels 6 and 11.

The main annoyance so far is a loud clicking sound on the handset earpiece when a call comes in on the other line, even with the alternate line ringer turned off. If you get freequent calls on a secondary line that might be a consideration.

The old phones worked well but their call waiting feature did not work everytime and you could not review the call list, it would only scroll foward, not in reverse. The new phones have a nicely lit display and the call list will work in both directions, but I have discovered that if you push the numbers too quickly, your call may not go through. The display will register that you hit the number but apparently it doesn't "dial" it. Pushing the buttons more slowly seems to correct the problem. The phones have a nice price and if you're not a high speed button pusher, they work well.

AT&T White Trimline Telephone (1909) Review

When you hold the receiver in your right hand, in a way that is natural for the average person, your fingers automatically hit the buttons they inconveniently placed on the outer side of the receiver. I was on the phone and hit the flash button repeatedly even though I was well aware the button was there and was trying to avoid it. You can't avoid it unless you want to put your hand in a very odd position, and get cramps. No kidding. In order to hold the receiver and not hit the flash button you have to cramp up your hand into an odd position and hope you don't drop the phone.

And you cannot place the phone on your shoulder to hold it, if you temporarily need to use both hands for something else. And, for those of us who still use an attachable shoulder cradle (a.k.a. shoulder rest), you cannot attach it to this phone due to the buttons on the outside of the receiver.

I don't want to be mean, but honestly, the person who designed this phone should be fired.

Outgoing sound was bad - the person I was talking to reported a hissing noise.

Incoming sound was actually good, but that does not make up for the fact that holding the phone, what should be the simplest thing to do, can't be done comfortably.

And just as an FYI - I've tried them all; VTECH 265, ATT 265, and ATT 1909

and they are all the same design - don't get any of these if you want to be able to comfortably hold the phone, let it rest on your shoulder, or use a shoulder cradle (a.k.a. shoulder rest). See my photos of this ATT 1909 for an example of what I mean.

If you want a very simple corded phone I can tell you the ATT Trimline 230 has worked well for me for about 20 years. The 230 model is now called the AT&T Corded Trimline Phone with 13-Number Memory (210), slightly modified. I've just ordered some 210s, for my MagicJacks, and I'll be sure to review them, to see if they are as good as the 230s use to be.

My alarm contractor suggested that I save my money and by several AT&T 854/954 phones (both models are basically the same phone). It haspaging and intercom, conference calling, call transfer etc. Everything thatthe expensive systems have... without the high cost. I have these all overmy house and I love this system; especially the paging - I hate having togo upstairs to tell my daughter that she has a phone call! I highlyrecommend buying several (two or more) of these phones over an expensivephone system. It does the same thing for a lot less. Note, however, onedifference is that with these phones, you need an AC plug for each unit; ona system you don't. The only draw-back, but if you can live with that minordifference, you'll save yourself over $1000 compared to a professionalsystem.

Our phone is mounted in a part of the kitchen that does NOT have a nearby electrical outlet that most of Caller ID phones require. This one operates on two AA batteries and is simple and easy to use. The only drawback is that when the phone is mounted on a wall surface there is a space of about 1/4 inch between the phone and the wall that is a bit unsightly when viewed from the side, but this is not a serious drawback.

Easy to use, cheap, and have big system features like intercom, page, hold, LCD display, etc.Phone systems cost thousands of dollars for the same features.
Don't fall for the big system hype. Have these installed and save yourself alot of money!

My needs in order of priority:
1.No electrical hookup - should run off phone line, like all old analog phones
2.Need speaker phone for occasional conference calls
3.Need Caller ID to screen calls.
4.Nice to have - programmable phone number bank
5.Ringer control - should be able to turn off ringer or make it go to visual
6.Should be able to put caller on hold or mute.
7. No answering machine neededNeedless to say - this was the only phone I found whichcould meet all of the above. The need to have one phone in the house which can be used if the electricity is off just made all the other phones miss out in some other aspects in the list above. Mostly they wouldnt have caller ID. All these features in this phone work on 4 -AA batteries and we will see how the consumption rate on that is.

It was easy to setup, though the wall mount , did have an issue with the hook for the handset.It just wouldnt slide out.... had to bring the screw driver and pryit loose.

Next, I will programme the frequently dialed numbers and see how that goes. It seems fairly easy from the instruction book.

So far I have tested the speakerphone and the handset - the sound quality is great! Our previous phone was introducinga lot of static in the calls, so this is a good replacement and I am happy with the price. ANd we have freed up one of the electrical sockets as this needs no electric connection!!

(More customer reviews)Got this phone for my home office.Speakerphone was important to meand ths quality of it on this model is excellent.I like everything about this phone. You will benefit most from this phone if you hook up additional extensions throughout your home or business.

My only cons are:

1 - No backlit display on LCD

2- Only has 3 programmable speed dial numbers.

3- The LINE IN USE indicator only works if another phone of this same model is in use.So if my wife is on the one line with her NON Panasonic KXTS3282 phone, I don't know the phone is in use and will pick it up on accident while she is talking.

4 - Would be nice if the LCD display tilted.Hard to see when it laying flat on your desk. I ended up building a small angled wood stand to prop it up at a 45 degree angle so I could see everything

AT&T 993 Corded 2-Line Speakerphone Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this phone to replace a somewhat similar AT&T 962 that had served me well for five years or so. My application is in a home office that has two lines--one for home and one for office. Important features to me are a speakerphone, caller ID, call waiting caller ID, and a dozen or more dedicated buttons for speed dialing. This phone has all those features, plus additional ones like headset capability that I probably will never use.

The phone looks and feels like a professional telephone. The controls are easy to see and identify, and easy to find and press with your fingers. The 4-line backlit LCD display is easy to see, even in a lightened or darkened room. A 9-volt battery lets the phone operate even during a power outage.

Many of the features are controlled by a menu on the LCD display. The controls and procedures for this are much improved over my older AT&T phone. The manual provides fairly easy-to-follow instructions for the fairly complicated setups that many of the features require.

I'm a bit concerned about the provenance and future of the phone, though, since this model doesn't even have an entry on the manufacturer's web site.

Putting that aside, it seems like quite a good phone for the money, and it's a considerably-refined improvement over its similarly-featured predecessor.
