AT&T DECT 6.0 Digital 2-Line Answering System (86109) Review

AT&T DECT 6.0 Digital 2-Line Answering System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this phone system for about three weeks and I've been very pleased.I did a lot of research and couldn't seem to find one that met my many requirements:corded, cordless add-ons, speakerphone, hold, easy to program, good quality at both my end and the caller's, answering machine, etc. This phone seems to have it all.

Pros:
- Both corded and cordless performed well.
- Long-lasting charge on the cordless handsets.
- Lots of configuration options.
- Easy to program. No need to memorize menu codes and have the manual handy (like on the Panasonic phones).
- Corded base unit is easy and intuitive to use (and looks nice.
- Can add additional cordless handsets as needed.I added two in addition to the one that comes with the base unit.
- It has speed dial, so for frequently used numbers you only need to push one button instead of always going through the directory.
- Pairs with bluetooth--I paired it with my cell phone.I didn't think I would ever use this feature, but it turns out that it's incredibly handy. If I'm outside and only want to bring a handset with me, it will ring if my cell phone rings--no need to carry around 2 phones!
- Programming the directory in one phone programs them all.
- You can screen incoming phone calls when someone is leaving a message on the answering machine.
- The answering machine lets you choose whether you want only a blinking light to notify you of messages or you can also have an audible sound notification.
- Speakerphone works well.
- Hold button on handsets, too (as well as speakerphone).

Cons:
- Each handset (other than the directory), must be programmed separately. Not a big deal, really, since it's a one-time thing.
- No battery in the base unit for backup power when the power goes out. But you can use it to make and receive calls during a power failure since that part runs off the power in the phone line. However, the cordless phones will not work.
- Since it's new I couldn't find any pricing deals on it.It's a bit pricey, but works great.

Panasonic KX-TG6545B DECT 6.0 PLUS Expandable Digital Cordless Answering System with 5 Handsets

Just to qualify - I rely HEAVILY on my phones for constant daily use in work / business calls and I use the headset feature a lot as well as speakerphone. I've been using similar types of phones for about 5 years now and have owned Uniden TRU8885, Uniden TRU9485, Uniden DECT2085-3, and Panasonic KX-TG1033S.

I've been using this new set of Panasonic KX-TG6545B DECT 6.0 for about 32 days (as of the time of this review) and so far these are the best out of the bunch.

LIKES:
- Handsets are lightweight and comfortable
- VERY EASY TO SET UP AND GET RUNNING
- Sound is clear on handset AND HEADSET (optional separate purchase), the latter of which is really important to me
- Almost no crackling noise when I accidentally shift the headset connector around
- Talking Caller ID actually works! It's not perfect at pronouncing some words, but you definitely know who is calling without looking
- Very full array of features!
- Buttons are big enough for people like me with big hands, and the spacing between the buttons really helps avoid wrong presses
- Battery life is excellent AND they take standard NiMH AAA rechargeables, so NO MORE PROPRIETARY BATTERY REPLACEMENT HASSLES! BIG PLUS!
- Lots of redial and caller ID memory
- Phonebook groups for easy lookup and dial quickly
- AUTOMATICALLY copies your phonebooks to all handsets just by saving an entry on one handset

DISLIKES:
- The speaker phone on the handsets is a tiny bit too susceptible to background noise, but still acceptable
- Still, as with all others like these, on rare occasion the sound drops out or phone says no signal even 2-feet away from base. (HOWEVER, this problem occurs less than with any of the other 4 or 5 brands/models I've tried)
- There is some lag (delay) when answering a new call or flashing to another incoming call. Have to wait a couple seconds for the other party to hear you pick up.

OVERALL IMPRESSION:
I'm much more satisfied with this set than any of the others I've tried in this price-range. It's not perfect, but definitely 4-Star worthy and I would recommend trying this set if you need a multi-handest DECT 6 solution to cover the whole house.

Panasonic DECT 6.0 2-Line Black Corded Cordless Telephone with Two Handsets (KX-TG9392T) Review

Panasonic DECT 6.0 2-Line Black Corded Cordless Telephone with Two Handsets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This phone is a decent choice for a 2-line cordless phone. The corded base station is a nice plus and sound quality is excellent.Range is pretty good too.

However, for me, the negatives of this phone were a deal-beaker.The phonebook has no speed dial numbers and it takes multiple keystrokes to get into the menu to look up numbers to dial.Likewise, accessing the caller ID log takes multiple keystrokes to see the log. Both should be single key access from the idle mode.

The voicemail indicator is via text on the screen, not the light on the top of the phone so I often missed seeing waiting messages. It also seemed the VM detect was flakey as I often had messages and the phone did not display them.

The ringer sounds and volumes are poor.I use this in a office environment and the softest ringer is quite loud and there is only one normal electronic ring sound (bad design for a 2-line phone!)

Finally the biggest problem of all - the cordless handsets will randomly go "dead".After speaking about this with Panasonic they told me there may be a problem with iPhones interfering with the handsets and making them go dead. They said there were other reports on the internet of this being a problem but had not concluded their study.Since I'm an iPhone user, I guess I won't be a Panasonic phone user.

Bought this REALLY long cord for my fax machine sitting in a non-phone area of my house. I really cant go into too much detail about this cable because it is - a cable. It works just fine, the wire seems to be sound. The end connectors are snug without any issues with plugging in.

This is a 4 wire cord. Not a 6 wire cord. Be careful BEFORE you purchase it.

Panasonic KX-TCA60 Hands-Free Headset with Comfort Fit Headband Review

Panasonic KX-TCA60 Hands-Free Headset with Comfort Fit Headband
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Don't bother with the fancier models of the Panasonic headsets. This bare-bones model has all you need.So it doesn't have volume adjustment or a mute button.Who cares?Your phone should already have those features.Besides, that redundancy would weigh down the entire unit. Also, this headset is very inexpensive to own, so those unnecessary features would drive up the price, which would not be a good thing.
If you own a Panasonic cordless phone, this headset works best with these phones.I own many Plantronics-brand headsets, which are excellent on my cell phone, but horrible on my Panasonic cordless phone.Callers constantly complain that I sound very far away. But then I bought this Panasonic-brand headset and callers hear me very clearly.Ordinarily, I'd be annoyed at having had to buy an additional headset for my Panasonic phone, but it was so cheap that I really don't mind. Now I've got an extra headset that I can use in my car!An added bonus is that this Panasonic also works really well with my cell phone, so if I had to choose one, I'd ditch my more more expensive Plantronics headset since that only works well on the cell. But, it's important to note that the Panasonic headset is not that portable so I'm not throwing away anything just yet.

RCA ViSys 25424RE1 4-Line Expandable System Phone with Call Waiting/Caller ID Review

RCA ViSys 25424RE1 4-Line Expandable System Phone with Call Waiting/Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just bought three of these RCA ViSYS 25424RE1 phone models.I am very impressed with how good they look in my office. To my delight, they work great!I thought I'd have to pay much more for good working phones.Intercom, caller-id, directory, speaker is loud and clear. There is no dialing lag with these, as I have read about with other phones.

I didn't experience any issues with the batteries yet, either, though I will probably put each phone on a UPS, along with the desktop PCs, and one in the tele-com closet.Vonage can do an automatic re-route of calls to my cell phone in case of an outtage, but it's better to be able to get through small power interruptions for phone and data.

The only thing I was dissappointed about, but I should have read about, is that each phone requires two in-bound tele cables to use all four lines on the phone. Not a big deal, but I had to get a phone tech to help me re-wire the wall jacks. He had to punch down those cables in the tele-com closet and rig them up to work with the two Vonage adapter boxes, anyway.Everything is smooth as Velveeta now.

Vtech DECT 6.0 Black/White Expandable 4-Handset Cordless Phone System with Digital Answering Device and Caller ID (CS6229-4) Review

Vtech DECT 6.0 Black/White Expandable 4-Handset Cordless Phone System with Digital Answering Device and Caller ID
Average Reviews:

Our Panasonic phones were suffering from heavy, ungentle use. We were happy with Panasonic, but we decided to try this similar and comparably priced Vtech set instead. Mostly we liked its appearance. The two sets are very comparable in appearance and ease of use. Set-up was equally easy. However, here are three features Panasonic had, that the Vtech units do not have:

1. Panasonic had an easy-to-reach menu item to directly access my messages at my phone service provider. Vtech lets me turn off the phone-base messages, but then I have to set up a directory entry to reach my provider-held messages or dial them each time.
2. Panasonic let me set ring tones for anyone on my directory ... not the Vtech units.
3. Panasonic offered the option of caller ID voiced aloud from the base unit.

Small differences, but I would have stayed with Panasonic had I known these were not available with the Vtech set.

Still, the Vtech set has one feature better than the Panasonic. It has a quick and easy way to alter phone log numbers to whatever format we need to call back or put them in our directory. Our state uses area codes that are not geographically determined. So, every call has to have at least 10 digits and many need a one added for long distance. Vtech flips through the options to let us pick the one we need ... very nice.

Average Reviews:

Follow-up:After exchanging this phone twice for refurbished ones, they all have the same speakerphone problem, and Panasonic has essentially said "tough luck...not our problem".To hell with Panasonic.--------------

For $140, I expected a better phone...two key problems -

- Even though I subscribe to caller ID, when someone is calling and I'm on the line already, the other line doesn't go to the answering machine. It just rings and rings until the person gives up.

- The speaker phone doesn't work right after just 4 months...giving out, making horrible noises. They tell me to reboot the phone, which helps temporarily, but then the problem returns.

On a positive note, their customer service is exceptionally responsive and helpful.Very uncommon these days where it's usually hard to reach a human being, and even harder to get a problem resolved satisfactorily.

IBM 412 4-Line Telephone with Caller ID Review

IBM 412 4-Line Telephone with Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I got this phone for the telephone company voice mail indicator, which other 4-line phones don't have. After about a year, the results have been quite unsatisfactory:
(1) I have replaced three of them because some of the buttons stopped working. They must have fragile switches or something.
(2) Two of the phones will pick up line 2 on speakerphone, spontaneously. The phone will just be sitting there and then the line 2 light comes on, the speakerphone comes on, and then you can hear a dial tone.
(3) Sometimes the phone has a mysterious delay (1-5 seconds) before it will let you pick up a line when it is ringing.I pick up the handset, push the button, try again... eventually, the line connects, unless the caller hangs up first.
(4) Voice mail indicator often does not know when there are no more messages and keeps blinking (there is a way to turn it off manually).
(5) Conversations bleed through between lines.
Looks like buggy chips to me.The phones are "IBM" brand but really made by TT Systems. As soon as I can find another 4-line phone with an FSK voice mail indicator, these are all going in the trash.

RCA 4-Line Speakerphone Review

RCA 4-Line Speakerphone
Average Reviews:

Two basic functions on any phone should be caller ID and a "voicemail waiting"; however, this phone has neither.Even $10 phones at Wal Mart have caller ID, so I'm not sure why they left that feature off. Also, the picture of this phone is misleading, because it shows a number being displayed, as if the phone has caller ID.At least on the box, in big red letters, it states "This Phone is Not Compatible with Caller ID." At any rate, if you don't need caller ID or don't need to be notified when you have messages waiting, I would highly recommend this phone, because it is extremely durable.

AT&T 945 4-Line Speakerphone with Intercom Review

AT&T 945 4-Line Speakerphone with Intercom
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this phone mainly because I wanted a model that had numerous speed-dialing buttons and a decent speakerphone. Thus far, I am very pleased with the model. The 945 is a 4-line phone designed for office use, but it works great as a home phone. It has 16 speed dial buttons located on the right side of the phone. This makes it a snap to call family and friends by just pushing two buttons - one for speakerphone and one for the number. The speakerphone seems to work well and I also like the green backlit lcd display, which generally looks cool but also makes the phone easy to use in the dark. It also displays the date, time, number dialed, and phone call length, useful for keeping track of how long an interesting (or not) conversation has been going on for. Phone preferences can be set by an easy to use on-screen menu system and there are also a bunch of ring tones to choose from, which I appreciate because I have chosen a lower frequency tone that is so much more pleasant than the typical high-pitched annoying telephone ring my last phone had. Be aware, though, that Caller ID isn't supported on this phone.

Product Description:
A four-line corded phone with multi-user expandability to 16 stations, the 945 is a great choice for small businesses and busy households alike. A built-in speakerphone and headset compatibility allow you to communicate while engaging in other tasks, and two data ports allow you to take advantage of peripherals such as a modem or fax machine.
A 32-number speed dial lets you easily call the most important numbers, while features such as call transfer and three-party conferencing allow you to manage incoming calls. Additionally, an intercom feature lets you talk with any of the other phones on your system. The 945 works with any AT&T model 974, 984, 944, 955, and 964 phones, so you can mix and match to suit your office's needs.
You can adjust speakerphone, headset, and ringer volume levels, and also choose between several ringer types. The 945 has a six-number redial, while mute, hold, and flash buttons provide additional functionality. With the base LCD screen, you can access your phone's settings, and a memory loss protection feature saves your settings in case of a power failure. The 945 comes backed with a one-year limited warranty.

We have five of these phones in our office and all work very well. We switched back to copper lines after a disasterous venture into VOIP phones. We ordered the Panasonic phones as replacements.

They do have a slight lag time between picking up the handset and dialing the numbers as the reviewer below points out - but it's a making a mountain out of a molehill.

We even have an on hold music/message system connected to our Panasonic phones which works very well. I would have preferred to just plug in a radio or CD player but for the price of the phones I cannot really complain too much.

The phones are not absolutely perfect but they are very easy to use and suit our small office perfectly.

Panasonic 5.8 Ghz 4-Line FHSS Expandable Cordless Phone System with Call Waiting Caller Id and Answering System (KX-TG4500B) Review

Panasonic 5.8 Ghz 4-Line FHSS Expandable Cordless Phone System with Call Waiting Caller Id and Answering System
Average Reviews:

I have had the previous generation of this phone for 5 years and have just replaced it.

Pros:
1) If you need 4 lines, this is the only game in town. They used to make a 2 line one, but no longer.
2) There is a headset jack on the base unit, which is very rare, and which is the reason I was willing to pay for this unit. And you can switch among headset, handest and speaker phone with no switching noise - very unusual.
3) Excellent sound, and it's perfectly quiet going from one line to another - no transition noise.
4) Unlike some, there is no cross-talk between the 2 lines. If you have one person on hold and are talking to another, the first party won't hear the other conversation.
5) Obvious quality build.
6) Battery backup good for a while.

Cons:
1) Cordless range only so-so for a high-end unit.
2) BIG CON: The number pads on the cordless units are somewhat delicate and after a couple of years start being a bit harder to press or stop responding at all. The authorized repair place I used said that this isn't uncommon with these phones. Repair (including shipping) was going to be enough that I just bought a new/extra cordless unit to use with it.

There are 2 new features, the ablility to MUTE a call and the ability to record a call. The lack of a MUTE button on the base unit of the previous generation was strange in a unit of this type.

Motorola MD761 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Phone with Answering Machine and Caller ID (Black/Silver) Review

Motorola MD761 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Phone with Answering Machine and Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this phone for my second (business) line at home. I have an AT&T (VTech) phone for the house phone and this product suffers in comparison.

First the good stuff: this phone is attractive and easy to set up. The menus navigate easily and you program the base from the handset (none of this silly separate programming). The buttons and whatnot I think are better placed and the phone is nicer looking.

But...

This phone suffers from a number of limits that are annoying. The AT&T phone handsets work from throughout the house. This phone doesn't reach even half the distance before it produces noticeable static and weak reception and dies before I get to the backyard (yipes).

Battery life seems to deplete rapidly. Hour long conference calls are a test for the phone.

If you don't hold the phone directly over your ear, you can't hear it very well. The phone isn't shaped in a way to keep the earpiece centered naturally and I'm constantly having to shift the phone so I can still hear.

It does have a handset speakerphone, but the quality is fairly poor. I intend to try it with a headset.

The setup was easy, but it did take time for the programming to register with the base (confusing). Motorola's website can't seem to deal with this phone yet and it is nigh-on impossible to order accessories (like a headset) from it.

So overall an attractive phone, but you'd be much better off with the AT&T or V-Tech (they make the AT&T), which I highly recommend.
