RCA- 4 Line Speakerphone with Call Waiting/Caller ID Review

RCA- 4 Line Speakerphone with Call Waiting/Caller ID

Purchased RCA Models #25415RE3 & #25414RE3 to use in a small office situation. These were replacements for the Panasonic KX-TG4000B system, which was barely out of warranty when a major malfunction occurred (that's another story).Bought the RCA phone system simply for the reason that we were in dire need of a replacement phone system and it advertised the features we needed. First problem encountered was that the User's Manual is in a CD format, and you must print out the PDF file to really use the manual. The manual leaves a lot to be desired in the ease of use area. The phones don't integrate nearly as easily as RCA would have you believe. The biggest problem we encountered, within 4 days of receiving the phones, is an RCA-acknowledged difficulty with how the 25415RE3 model in particular handles power outages. On the 4th day the phone system was in operation, we experienced a 3-hour power outage, which is not really uncommon in our area.It had taken me 3 days to fully program all the features of the phones as I wanted them, including manually entering 98 names and numbers in the directory. New batteries had been installed in the phone as instructed, and the phone functioned well enough during the power outage to continue business operations. However, as soon as the electric power was restored, the 25415RE phone started flashing an intermittent "Message Waiting Line 4" message on both the base set and the cordless unit, even though there were no messages in the mailbox, and despite the fact that the answering machine was programmed to not take messages on that line. Additionally, the base unit keeps flashing "Install New Batteries" even with the replacement of the batteries. The RCA website has absolutely no help information, despite attempts to search their FAQ section.I called the 800 help line, and after over 45 minutes on hold, was informed by the rep that this is a frequent problem with the phone. She did have a fix for the problem - which entailed totally unplugging the phone lines and AC adaptor, removing the batteries, and waiting 30 minutes. Then - wonders of wonders - the annoying "Message Waiting" will be gone - along with ALLof your programming and all 98 directory names and numbers.Sounded like a great fix to me. Additionally, we're currently experiencing a lot of problems with the sound quality, especially on the cordless handsets. All in all, not the quality I would expect for the price.Have no suggestions for someone in the market for something similar, other than to stay away from Panasonic and apparently RCA brands

The phone works as advertised and I'm generally satisfied with the quality of the phone, both its appearance and functionality. However, I had the worst time dealing with both the Manufacturer - Astrata - and the Seller - Price Pros for a simple question I had. They both were at the same time non-responsive and unprofessional. If you have a chance and like the phone, try to get it through another seller or a similar phone from a different manufacturer.

RCA H5401RE1 Accessory Handset for 25423/4/5 Series Review

RCA H5401RE1 Accessory Handset for 25423/4/5 Series
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this accessory handset for my 25424RE1 phone as an additional extension for use with the base. However I found out that only the base or the cordless handset can be used at one time, i.e. you can not be talking on the base on 1 line and be talking on the handset on the other. You can not even talk on the same line with the base and the handset at the same time. In other words, when you pick up the cordless handset it locks out the base so you can not dial anyone.

This is a very bad design for a phone, who would have 4 lines and have a need to only use one at a time? I called Thompson and they have confirmed the design.

I'll be returning this today.

i purchased 5 of these phones for my New Jersey office from my telephone wiring contractor CROWN TELECOM SERVICE (732) 681-3903 and they are a dream. they were up and running with a little programming.
Easy to use, cheap, and have big system features like intercom, page, hold, LCD display, etc.Phone systems cost thousands of dollars for the same features.
Don't fall for the big system hype. Have these installed and save yourself alot of money!

I was a bit iffy about buying this phone, but for the price and what it offered you could not find a better deal out in the market. After receiving the phone and seen what it offered I was amazed. I mean its not every day anyone would buy a RCA product when there a lot better brands out there. I couldn't help noticing on the phone has the label, ViSYS who maked the phone for RCA.

Every 4 line phone out in the market was well over $200. This phone is great for a home business that has no more then 4 lines. I love the looks and color of the display and what it offers. The sound is amazing, and the best part is running as many as 16 wireless handsets or headsets to the phone. The quality in hardware is very good so you can tell the phone and the buttons on the phone are very strong and sturdy and meant to last.

Average Reviews:

There must be thousands of home businesses that need a two line corded phone with an answering machine, but this is not that phone and I haven't found any other either.I suggest reading the reviews of AT&T 964 all of which apply in my experience. The answering machine will only allow one outgoing announcement for all four lines. In other words, a call coming in on any of the four lines will get the same message when it reaches the answering machine.Worse if one is using one line, the answering machine will not pick up a call coming in on another line. This wouldn't be so bad except when one is using one line the ring on the other lines is so muted that it is easy to miss the ring.As others have noted sound quality can be either good or poor for unknown reasons.I gave the phone two stars because the phone has a nice feel and look and the ring tones are pleasant as are the pre-recorded messages and such. The dialing out tones are aversive and automatic dialing is really slow.

Product Description:
The 984 from AT&T is a four-line corded phone with multi-user expandability to 16 stations and with a built-in answering machine. A base speakerphone and headset compatibility let you communicate hands-free, and two data ports allow you to take advantage of peripherals such as a modem or fax machine.
A 32-number speed dial lets you easily call the most frequently dialed numbers, while features such as call transfer, intercom, and three-party conferencing allow you to manage your incoming calls. The 984 works with any AT&T model 974, 945, 944, 955, and 964 phones, so you can mix and match to suit your office's needs. You can adjust speakerphone, headset, and ringer volume levels, and also choose between several ringer types. Uniden DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System with Two Extra Handsets
Average Reviews:

We bought this one to replace an old Radio Shack unit that was starting to wear out.Initially we were looking at a Panasonic unit that offered call blocking, a feature we wanted to stop those annoying telemarketing calls. After some searching I found this unit, which also offered the call blocking capability. After some serious comparison shopping we opted to go with this unit, which so far we have not regretted at all. It's relatively easy to set up, although the directions leave a bit to be desired in my opinion. We bought an additional unit for this and all three remote units easily synched with the base unit. One unit did have a totally dead battery in it, but it quickly recharged after being left on the charger. We can't begin to say how much we love the call blocking feature. It's remarkably easy to add a number, either when it's ringing or by searching through the call history.Suddenly our house is much quieter now and we can actually get some peace and quiet knowing this unit is stopping those pesky telemarketers. The one feature I wish it had is a lighted push to talk button. If you pick up the phone in the dark you can't tell which button is the one to push to answer it, which can be kind of annoying if you've been woken up to answer the phone. While the keypad is lighted, it would be most helpful if the other buttons were as well. We've also found the battery to last a long time, which is refreshing given the fact that our old Radio Shack batteries were starting to wear out.Overall we're very happy with this new unit and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a phone that has lots of features, a good price, and nice styling.

Update - 3 May 2010:I'm still happy with this phone although the call block feature fills up rather quickly. It only holds about 20 numbers, so I've found it has filled up way too fast.It would be great if Uniden would expand that capability as I have lots of numbers I would like to add to the list.

Panasonic DECT 6.0-Series Dual-Handset Cordless Phone System with Answering System (KX-TG1032S) Review

Panasonic DECT 6.0-Series Dual-Handset Cordless Phone System with Answering System
Average Reviews:

I got this phone about a week ago in order to replace a 2.4 panasonic that died -some numbers were not dialing and finally battery hookup broke off- In general I like the phone but it has some major things I don't like.
Pros: Easy to set up. You get 2 phones with 1 phone jack. Speakers are great! (unlike with my old phone people don't complain when I use them). You can hear answering machines messages from either remote set. Phonebook sharing. You can conference between phones and call each other (big hit with my kids).
Cons:
1. There is something wrong with the volume (I read complains about it in reviews in Circuit city and thought maybe person had hearing problem... but no, they were right). Let me explain: the volume goes up and down by itself for no good reason. One phone call you hear great and next one is really low so you need to adjust volume and it goes up and then down on its own again -sometimes during the same call while you are talking- .... You can live with it, you adjust volume but I don't particularly like playing with volume every other call! For me it is really a pain!
2. Answering machine base don't display the number of messages you have (it has no lcd screen!). No talking id or any other fancy stuff either.
3. When you play messages from answering machine the sound is a little boxy, robot like...not clear. This does not happen if you hear messages from the phones themselves.

In conclusion I would say this is an all right phone, I expected better... but it is also not very expensive and it has the latest technology. I guess now I know why some 5.8 panasonic phones (previous technology) were more expensive than this one... you get what you pay.

Uniden DECT 6.0 Silver Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID and Two Handsets (DECT1580-2) Review

Uniden DECT 6.0 Silver Cordless Digital Answering System with Caller ID and Two Handsets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It shows up CID right after the first ring, while the Panasonic does it after two rings. The Uniden 2080 does not show caller's name even if the CID is already in the phone book, while my Uniden 1560-2 does! Panasonic is the worst, it scrolls the name and then the phone #; plus, as I just said, it takes one more ring to get CID. When you finally see the caller's #, it is too late, the answering machine is activated.

Although I like the idea of normal AAA NiMH batteries, Panasonic stupidly force them to be charged in the stock charger only. If you put a pair of fully charged batteries into the Panasonic, it keeps saying (via voice) "charge it for 7 hours", until you put the handset into the charger for a while. This defeats quite the point, you still cannot charge the batteries and swap them.

This Uniden uses a battery pack, but the battery chamber is huge (designed for AA). I bought an AAA battery holder from RadioShack and, after some modifications, put it into the handset. Now I can swap NiMH batteries and never have to put the handset back into the charger. Love it. You cannot do this with Uniden 2080 that has a very small battery chamber.

Sound is loud and clear. The Panasonic has annoying background noise. Oh, you'll love the big transparent back-lit keys with superb tic arc feel and the letters are printed underneath - they won't wear out. The rubber key bars on 2080 are garbage.

Some other features worth of mentioning: you can copy phone book entries from one handset to other handsets. You can inte'com or page any or all other handsets and transfer or conference a call. You can make calls private to other handsets. You can assign 8 personal rings for different callers. Voicemail indicator and button, pause button, mute button, speakerphone button and redial 5 numbers.

If you don't need the answering machine, the Uniden 1560-2 sold for $29.99 from your local HomeDepot stores is a steal. If you need more than 2 handsets, you can buy two 1560-2. You can also use any DCX150, DCX200 and DCX300 handsets, but each cost $30. Although you can use 2080's handsets on 1560, they still won't show caller's name that's already in phone book. You can register a handset to multiple bases; so there is no problem to use two or more 1560-2 for a single line (i.e, extra bases are used as chargers only). If you like, you can use them like multi-line phones which are very expensive.

The only thing missing is headset jack, which I don't care but may turn down some people. One other concern is durability. My 900MHz Uniden just died after a year of light use. That's why I'm in this market and this time I looked at the Panasonic first.

Uniden TRU9466 2-Line Expandable Cordless System with Dual Keypad and Call Waiting/Caller ID Review

Uniden TRU9466 2-Line Expandable Cordless System with Dual Keypad and Call Waiting/Caller ID
Average Reviews:

This is a very high quality telephone system at a fantastic price. Admittedly, some will wish that this phone had other features, but I bought it because it matched my needs exactly:

1. Handles two lines.
2. Expandable without needing a phone jack connection for each handset.
3. No answering machine capabilities (we have, and prefer, voice mail).
4. Able to mute all ringers (handsets and base) for a sleeping baby.

Beyond this, we just needed acceptable range and sound quality -- nothing extravagant.

I'm happy to report that these phones have excellent range, exceptional sound quality, and are a snap to set up. The expansion phones set themselves up by simply placing them in the base for a few seconds. It couldn't be easier. The menu system (on each handset and the base) is very intuitive (similar to cell phones), and offers many functions we will never use -- but they never get in the way of the simple things.

Plus, the price was right. This has turned out to be a very successful purchase.

Uniden TCX905 Accessory Handset and Charger with Call Waiting and Caller ID Review

Uniden TCX905 Accessory Handset and Charger with Call Waiting and Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought two of these to supplement my Uniden Tru8888 after researching compatibility. While the software driving these phones has much of the interface of the TCX805/Tru888x line, I'll cut my stars accordingly for the Tru888x line. Comments about this expansion handset:

- The four-way joystick-like button is a blessing. The up-down buttons on the TCX805 are OK but the left-right buttons fail to work when editing a number in the phone book especially to add the 1 before an area code. They instead add # and *. Here, you don't have to re-type the whole number, just move where you want with the joystick. The odd but subsequently convenient Space typed by right-arrowing in text is gone, apparently replaced by the character range on zero, one of which is a space. Operation in low light is a lot easier with the big joystick button.

- Two numbers per phonebook entry seems to be new here, and I like it.

- The quality of sound, range and the clarity of the speakerphone on the handset remain excellent.

- They seem to mate to a TCX805 charger but don't seem to fit in right. So if you have a mix, don't interchange their charger bases.

- I like the overall feel and I prefer using the 905's in the bedrooms (where you might have to use them in the dark) and the 805 remains in the living room.

I'll update with my experiences as I continue to use them. For now, the TCX905 gets all five stars.

I live in the Colorado mountains at 10000 ft elevation. The house sits on a large rock outcropping just barely covered by dirt. Storms build here before moving out east to the plains. The rock outcropping is a great attractor of lightning. Before using the Belkin surge protector we lost many a phone and modem if we forgot to unplug the phone lines. We got hit with lightning last week, enough to rattle the windows, and the surge protector took the hit and protected the phone. I'm sold. I'm buying two more, one to replace the old one and one spare. Its a lot cheaper to replace the surge protector than the phone.

I returned this to the store a week after buying it.I was hoping this would be an economical replacement to voice mail but I just couldn't get over the cons.

Pros:
* Cheap

* Easy to set up and use

* 40 minutes of messages and voice memos @ up to 3 minutes/message.I don't know why the other reviewer only got 14 minutes - maybe he misunderstood when it said "40.Minutes.Remaining."?Mine had 40.

* Did a good job of detecting when the phone was picked up.

Cons (in order):
* Poor call quality. Most of the calls I got sounded distorted at best.Unless the person spoke very clearly and enunciated purposefully, it was hard to understand the message. The announcer's voice sounds great, so I don't think the problem is with the speaker.

* Ridiculous feedback! If I answered my phone within 3 feet of the unit, it would cause very strong feedback.I had to keep them *away* from each other.

* No date setting. It asks you to enter the year and the day but doesn't allow you to set the date.Your message is "Sunday at 6:15pm"... which Sunday?

* Hardwired cord. Not a big deal but it would have been nice if it had a jack instead so I could use the cord I already had snaked behind my entertainment system.

I have a base unit and seven extra handsets throughout the house. The system works very well. Reception is excellent, intercom feature works very well, including paging. This two-line system would work well for a busy family or for a samll business office.

Motorola DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with Answering System and 3 Handsets Review

Motorola DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone with Answering System and 3 Handsets

Same problem as another reviewer - "incoming call" goes on the display randomly, and whenever we hang up after a call, and also whenever i hit the caller id button.

Other annoyances are the shape of the handset make it very slippery and easy to drop, plus no belt clip. the redial button is also the volume - button - how do i redial?the slim shape makes dialing awkward. these are going back to the store...

The battle between WiFi and wireless telephones.

We had a mixture of 2.4 gigahertz phones for years that coexisted peacefully with our old wireless G router. Well, the router died and we needed a new one. The newest technology for wireless is "N" with Mimo Technology, which supports both N and G wireless networks. So, of course we buy. After all, now is the future, right?

Mimo WiFi uses several different radio frequency channels (in the 2.4 gigahertz range for G networks) at the same time to assure an optimal radio signal to your WiFi laptops (in our case, G). This works great for the WiFi network, BUT......every time our telephones rang...Poof, the WiFi Signal got scrambled and we lost the network. We tried setting different channels on the phones and the router, nothing worked.

So being in the market for a major upgrade with our now antiquated phone system, we bought this Dect. 6.0 system that uses the 1.9 gigahertz frequency.

First of all..no interference in the WiFi network....NONE!

There are also a few features that I like.

We can now communicate and transfer calls with each other over 5 acres of land with complete security.

Talking Caller ID enables me to save a few steps and decide if I want to answer the call.

Since Vonage (my phone service) does not have specific call block, this phone can block certain pesky incoming calls and give the abusive callers a busy signal to listen to. This is a great feature and the only way Panasonic could improve on it, is to give us a choice between the busy signal or tones that indicate that the phone has been disconnected.

I can't say anything about the voice mail except that you can turn it off quite easily. We use the Vonage voice mail and are quite happy with it.

We are easily adding to the phone book as calls are coming in. I think it is a bit of a hassle to add them in manually.

Different ring tones are nice, and sound pretty. All of us have set up different ring tones and it is quite a symphony in the house when all the phones play their distinct melodies.

Each phone has a speaker phone and my friends can't tell I am using it.

Only the main base need to be plugged into a backup power supply if you want to do that.

All in all, I am very satisfied and am going to add 2 more phones to my 4 phone system.
