I received the phone yesterday and have been playing with it for a day. It looks nice and has good handset speakerphone/microphone sound. However, the answering machine quality is poor. The sound quality from both the speakerphone and the microphone on the base for the answering machine are unsatisfactory. Another annoyance is if a power failure occurs, the date and time need to be reset, although messages are not lost.

We were looking for an inexpensive, compact fax with cordless phone, but which also identified the incoming calls so we could screen out solicitors. This did all that, and the price was right, and installation easy. Both the fax unit and the cordless phone have the caller ID feature, which was a plus. The only disappointment was that Staples does not carry a generic version of the replacement film, and the Panasonic replacement film is pricy. So just don't let your kids copy their term papers on it!

Uniden CellLink ELBT595 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Flip Phone with Color LCD, Answering System, and Bluetooth Capability (Titanium) Review

Uniden CellLink ELBT595 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Flip Phone with Color LCD, Answering System, and Bluetooth Capability
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was all hyped up about getting this phone and that feeling faded after only 24hrs of owning it. This phone represents a good try by Uniden, but I feel that it needs to go back for a version 2. First, for me, the ringers on this phone do not ring loud enough (with a few expectations)....Uniden does allow you to set the base station to ring, and it does ring loudly (too loudly at night) but that defeats the reason to have a cordless phone if you are attached to the base station all day. The LCD on the closed clamshell isn't very good. It is easier to read when the backlighting is off then when on. The hinge on my phone squeaked when opening and closing and the keys on the handset feel cheap, not what you should expect from at $250 phone. The software to program the phone is nice, easy to use, and made it really convenient to program in over 50 names and reminder dates, but it would have been nice if Uniden would have allowed you to download ringtones into the phone via the software and USB cable, rather then having to record it into the phone via a mic or a line setup. The color screen is nice and bright, but too small...its like 150 pixels X 150 pixels and the images you can download for your contacts become the size of a postage stamp CUT IN HALF!!Overall it is an average phone, not worth $250, maybe $160....all I know is mine is going back to the store for a refund. See you next time Uniden.

How Does Bluetooth Work?
Bluetooth technology has been incorporated into this phone to make it easy to communicate with either a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone or a wireless headset. You don't even have to think about it. Bluetooth doesn't require you to do anything special to make it work. The devices find each other and strike up a conversation without any user input at all. Now you can tap into your cell phone minutes to take advantage of your cellular plan, or just go hands-free using your land line for crystal-clear communication anywhere in the house.
How Does CellLink Work?
Uniden CellLink technology lets you easily take advantage of your cell phone's minutes. If you have a Bluetooth v1.1 compliant mobile phone and register it to the base, you can make or receive a call through your mobile line as well as your normal land line. To use your mobile line, press the Mobile soft key. The two lines will be completely independent on your ELBT595. For example, you can have one handset operating on the land line while another handset and the base unit participate in a three-way conference call on the mobile line. However, you cannot make or receive a land line call using a Bluetooth mobile phone, and a Bluetooth mobile phone will not ring when the ELBT595 receives a land line calI.

Easy, Powerful Features
Additional features include enhanced caller ID so you can see who's calling with a unique full color picture and distinctive ring. The digital answering system quickly access your answering system using your handset or your base. Volume settings adjust the ringer and speaker volumes on your handset. An advanced phonebook organizes your names and numbers, with special capabilities like storing four numbers per name and sorting names into groups.
You can easily update your phonebook settings using your computer with the USB connector and software included. Enjoy hands-free communication without wires using a Bluetooth headset or the hands-free speakerphone. Easily navigate features with a joystick and soft-key menus. Record your own ringer tones with the audio cable or handset microphone (cable included).
Compatible Handsets
This expandable base system is compatible with Uniden handset models ELX500, TCX400, TCX440, and TCX805. However, only the ELX500 is compatible the base system's Bluetooth and CellLink features.

Uniden DECT 6.0 Compact Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle. Review

Uniden DECT 6.0 Compact Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this particular phone because it was the only one that has all of the features I needed for my home office phone -- voicemail indicator, belt clip, earphone jack, speakerphone -- as well as the usual things like speed dialing and Caller ID. (I was surprised at how few phones come without answering machines now.) This phone was easy to set up and program. The handsets can send copies of speed dial numbers to each other. It's also a nice-looking phone that doesn't take up much space on the desk. The microphone in the handset is not very good. My voice sounds overmodulated to people I'm talking with. I usually use a headset, though, so that's not a huge issue for me. One very strange thing I have discovered is that the Caller ID on this phone does not interface with the programmed numbers, so if someone who's in my list of speed dial numbers calls me, their name is not displayed. I've never had a phone that did not recognize programmed numbers, so I find this very strange. I contacted Uniden about it, and they say this is the normal operation for this phone. This is probably the biggest con from my point of view, because my coworkers are all at another location, and I would like to be able to greet them by name when I answer the phone. It's not enough to make me take back the phone, because this is still the only phone that has all of the other features I want. But I do find it very strange that any phone would not have this feature. I always thought it was standard. Everything else about it appears to work well.

Philips 6.0 Dect Cordless Phone Answering Machine with 2 Handsets (Dect2252g/37) Review

Philips 6.0 Dect Cordless Phone Answering Machine with 2 Handsets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Once again, a consumer electronics hardware maker proves that they can't develop a good software interface for their device. In terms of physical design, this is one of the best cordless phones out there. The sound quality is also quite good, and the DECT technology works on a band that keeps it free of WiFi interference. However, I had to return this phone right away because the interface is so awful. First of all, Philips really shortchanged this device by putting in a cheap LCD display that can only display 8 letters on caller ID, and then they are letters formed in barely legible block-style on the numerical display. I mean, how much more would if have cost them to put in a modern LCD display with enough pixels to show real letters? But the clincher is the poor design of this phone's Caller ID interface. Call it Caller Confusion. If you have Caller ID with Name service from your phone company, with this phone you can only see the name -- and only the first 8 letters of it! While the phone call is coming in, there is no way to scroll the display to show the phone number. You can only see that AFTER the phone has stopped ringing. What use is that? If the incoming phone call actually has a name from the phone company, then 8 letters is barely enough to identify it, but for the many calls that have no name, this phone will show cryptic messages like "CELL PHO" or "UNKNOWN" or "800 SERV". There is no way to get it to show the ACTUAL PHONE NUMBER while the phone is still ringing. If you're trying to screen calls, it's essentially useless. Whoever designed this interface just doesn't get what Caller ID is for in the first place. I would have loved to like this phone, because I think the phones from Panasonic, VTech, Motorola, Uniden and others are horribly ugly, and my previous Panasonic had the worst audio quality imaginable. But this phone doesn't cut it as well. Why is the cordless phone market so devoid of good products?

Vtech Trimline White Review

Average Reviews:

The troubles with cell phones not working after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and the power blackout in 2003 made clear the advantage of a corded land-line telephone in emergencies. There have also been repeated problems with expensive combination telephone/answering machines where one stops working so the whole thing has to be replaced. The frequent and annoying static on various cordless telephones was the last straw so I ordered this telephone over four years ago and have really enjoyed using it.

The backlit dial pad is nice and the easy access to controls for ring and handset volume is great.I don't use the memory dial or emergency buttons but they could be useful if someone has trouble dialing numbers or uses a calling card for long distance. You don't need any instructions to use the basic features, just plug it in, lift off the base and dial, which is a nice change from fancy electronics that take an hour to set up.The handset itself is well-balanced and feels substantial in the hand without being too heavy. The buttons have the right amount of "give".

Overall, this is a nice little telephone, simple and reliable.

A great accessory is this little thing-a-ma-jig that keeps the cord from getting tangled: AT&T 91078 Cord Detangler - 3 Pack (Clear)

I purchased this phone after calling verizon to make sure I can activate the phone. I was told, it should have instructions in the box. The box came empty but for a phone user manual. Brought it over to the verizon store and after 2 hours and although friendly service, nothing happened. I was told they could not activate this without it's cell number. I then called Amazon and was told they did not have this information and did not know what to tell me. I called the third-party seller , gamzi digital and to date, I have yet to receive a return call. So sending this back for a full refund, and checked online one last time. I went to the verizon website and filled in the phone's ESN and then I get "congratulations, you can activate your phone online"! I followed the steps and hit a snag, "cannot activate the phone"message came up and I had to dial an 800 number. Talked to the rep and was told that the migo has to be on a specific plan, which verizon does not offer anymore, so no can do! If there is anyone out there who knows how to activate this phone, please let me know. Planning to return this next week sometime.

The cordless phone works, and is clear. But be warned. This is not a true 5.8 GHz phone. The base transmits at 5.8 GHz, but the phones transmit at 2.4GHz.So if you're buying this in order to reduce interference with a wireless network (or from a microwave), look elsewhere. It will not solve your problems.

Panasonic KX-TG2382B 2.4GHz Phone System (Black) Review

Panasonic KX-TG2382B 2.4GHz Phone System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wanted a cordless phone to replace a dead Panasonic KX-TG2650 (2.4 GHz cordless phone with speakerphone). In addition, I wanted a phone that has an answering machine built in. Finally, I wanted a cordless phone which offered good range.
I narrowed down my choices by reading epinions.com, ranking of popular phones at amazon.com, and recommendations from cordlessphonesamerica.com.This model appeared to fit my bill. After a week of use, I'm convinced I made the right choice.
Calls are clear, except when I turn on the microwave -- I hear a few clicks when that happens. But that's expected of cordless phones that operate on the 2.4GHz bandwidth.
This model allows you to have conversations between handsets (walkie talkie feature :-))In addition, you can transfer incoming phone calls from one handset to another, and conference into the conversation after the transfer, if needed. You may also page handsets from the base.
The answering system feature is adequate for my needs, and is conveniently accessible from the handset. The speakerphone feature on the handset is an incredible convenience.
I compared this with the KX-TG2730S.I liked the all black appearance of this phone, plus its NiMH batteries. The KX-TG2730S comes with NiCD batteries -- don't want the memory effect.
Hope this helps you.

Product Description:
An expandable cordless system that's ideal for large homes or small businesses, the Panasonic KX-TG2382B includes an additional handset and charger that you can station in a different room from the main hub; one additional handset (for a total of three) is supported as an add-on option. Each handset can connect to another for use as an in-house intercom, and includes a backlit and three-line LCD that provides access to call waiting/caller ID information (with subscription to local service). Thirty names and numbers may be stored and redialed at the touch of a single button, while a separate 30-station phonebook gives access to your most frequently dialed numbers. Hang your phone up on the base (facing up or down) or the included charger--either one will charge your phone whenever you're not using it. Three-way conference calls are available via a single button. When the battery starts running low, you'll know instantly, thanks to the indicator light on the LCD. Each handset is supplied with a digital duplex speakerphone, permitting hands-free calls with none of the annoying echoes of earlier speakerphone models.
The base incorporates a digital answering system with 15 minutes of message recording time. Simple controls allow you to listen, save, and delete messages easily. You'll have full remote access, complete with toll saver, which prevents long distance charges from accruing when you dial in from across the country and there are no messages.
The handsets use the 2.4 GHz frequency with digital spread spectrum technology, which "skips" constantly through a range of available channels to reduce interference and to provide improved security against eavesdropping. Panasonic includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service.
What's in the Box
Two handsets, two NiMH batteries, one base station, one remote charger stand, two AC power supplies, one telephone line cord, two belt clips, instructions, warranty information

After our old HP fax (910 series, I believe) kept getting paper jams as part of its daily routine, we searched and decided to try this Brother fax. A huge plus was having a paper tray where the paper sits horizontally, like our HP printers. This Brother fax was easy to set up, easy to program, and is easy to use. This machine scans faxes into memory immediately after you press the start button, THEN dials out, so if you have more than one fax to send to different places, you do NOT have to wait for the first fax to send before you go on feeding the other pages through. What a wonderful feature to have after so many years of not! We also use the "Fax Broadcasting" feature daily; it's nice to get a report printed out after you 'broadcast' a fax to several people, telling you the time the fax went through to each person, and that the fax did, indeed, go through. This fax machine is on a dedicated fax line, not hooked up to our computer system, and has been a wonderful addition. Absolutely zero regrets on buying this Brother fax.

Sharp UX-B800SE Broadband Fax Machine Review

Sharp UX-B800SE Broadband Fax Machine
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one slick piece of kit. Quite easy to to setup with a bit of network basics under your belt. Plug in phone line to a spare jack and then a CAT5 cable to a spare router port. I then manually entered static IP information into FAX machine (even easier if you use DHDP) and then setup options on FAX how I wanted it. To add, edit or delete email addresses, etc I then went to internet explorer, typed http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx, which is the FAX machine's IP and used the internet based configuration page. Up and running in less than 10 minutes. I use PDF as the format and get pretty darn good quality documents. I used PDF because every computer should have adobe reader installed these days. Admittedly a bit more effort is involved to setup options specific to how you want to use it but I found it very, very easy to install and setup. No harder than any other FAX machine really.

I only FAX a few pages once or twice a week. For large business usage you may need to think twice on a larger more expensive make/model.

Pro : cheap price, duplexing, scans quickly, good scan memory size, relatively easy setup (maybe not so for a novice but instructions are clear and concise), don't have to use the somewhat expensive ink cartridges on the fax but have them go straight to email and then I print them on my laser printer ... the list of good points goes on and on and on ...

Cons : None so far

Siemens Gigaset HDSP DECT 6.0 Handset for the A580IP (A58H) Review

Siemens Gigaset HDSP DECT 6.0 Handset for the A580IP
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First lets not start bitching about Skype not being supported to be as 'a fatal design flaw' since this device was never designed nor advertised to work with Skype. If Skype is being closed system and not following industry standard (SIP) that's Skype's fault. There are tons of SIP providers with rates much cheaper than Skype.

Pros:
- uses 2xAAA NiMH batteries that can be had easily and cheap or in cases of emergency you can use non-rechargeabe batteries
- sound quality is outstanding both VoIP and POTS lines albeit volume is fairly low for both earpiece and speakerphone. There is no background hissing or delays like from ATA adapters such as SPA3102, nothing at all.
- long range and battery life
- keyboard is indeed backlit unlike what some suggest here
- headset physical layout is pretty good and I find it to be of very good build quality although prone to smudges. Keypad size and responsiveness is pretty good.
- It can tail stand easily and it is recessed a bit so you can see display nicely

Cons:
- menu is confusing and some button option orientation is weird. For example first option that shows in menu is SMS option - how many folks will use this? 'Clear' button is programmed on the left side, hmmm ... maybe good for lefties
- volume is too low for my taste

I gave it a 5/5 even though headset volume is too low to my taste.
Reason why I gave it 5/5 is to applaud functionality and quality that comes with this whole A580IP system (6 SIP + 1POTS) for I would say fairly low price. After all how many phone manufacturer came with a standalone all-in-one product like this?

theBoom Hands Free Noise Cancelling Telephone Headset Review

theBoom Hands Free Noise Cancelling Telephone Headset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The hype is, in fact, true. The microphone on this headset is MILES better than any other at noise rejection; and I have tried most of the competition. You can in fact have a coherent conversation in a hushed voice while a semi trailer is driving past you on the street. The caller on the other end doesn't hear "nothing"---but they don't hear anything distracting. In addition, the clunky silicone "ear funnel" makes it easy to hear callers even in loud conditions, even at 50% volume on my Blackberry.

That said, there are several real drawbacks:

1) As a previous reviewer noted, the wind rejection is not great. The included windscreen is too small; it helps but doesn't solve the problem.I work on roofs in windy Illinois, so this is a problem, but it's no worse than other headsets.I will try a giant fuzzy ball on my next Boom, to see if that can totally eliminate the sound of a 30MPH gust.

2) The Mic is very directional, so the "fading" the previous reviewer saw was probably due the the mic drifting out of the sweet spot ~ 1" away from and slightly above your mouth.Outside of that zone, the mic eliminates the "noise" of your voice very effectively! =)

3) The ear holder is uncomfortable after many hours. This product is not "dainty", and it comes with a tenacious moldable thing that holds the headset in place. To get a snug fit, you bend it tightly around your ear. After a few hours, this HURTS.

4) Build quality SUCKS.My first Boom broke, so I super-glued it.After a couple months it got stolen, so then I waited (and waited!) for them to release the new version. The new one broke again (in a different place) after a month, so I super-glued IT.Then it broke again (in a third place), and I glued it again, and now the adapter cord is broken so I can't use it until I get a replacement.

5) Support SUCKS.It took me NINE MONTHS to get my v4 Boom.During this time, they were totally out of stock. Then, they forgot I was on the pre-order list. Then they charged my credit card and didn't send the item. Finally, they sent the item (along with some tasty chocolate as a mea culpa). Then I lost the "ear funnel", and needed a replacement.Took me six phone calls to reach someone. Then it started breaking (see above).Ten phone calls later, I haven't reached a single human nor recieved a callback.

BOTTOM LINE:Their amazing technology solves the big problem for me: project a professional phone presence while still getting the work done.I spend about 4 hours per day on my cell phone, mostly outdoors and driving, so this is a Must Have.So I'm going to just buy the damn things in bulk and live with the crappy support and fragility. If talking with customers in a loud environment is not a necessity for you, go with something that doesn't work as well but is cheaper and less breakable.

If they start giving better support, in a way that I can tell is not just to appease me, I'll ammend this review.

if you need to send faxes it is ok, the memory seems to get overloaded if you send more than 5-6 pages. the print quality on the recieve side i have found to be on the poor side and the auto fax answer switch mode does not work with my VOIP service. the copying is ok.

the phone is good, but, again, does not interact well with VOIP service and cannot indicate when i have voicemail waiting due to the internal answering machine.

it comes with a rather limited print ribbon/film, so i would suggest getting an extra one if you decide on buying one of these units, and use it to recieve faxes.

just about acceptable for small home office use.

AT&T TL74208 - MAIN BASE SYSTEM W/ CORDED HANDSET - EXPANDABLE SYSTEM Review

AT&T TL74208 - MAIN BASE SYSTEM W/ CORDED HANDSET - EXPANDABLE SYSTEM
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned this phone since May of 2008.It's really a superb model. The cordless twins really make it much easier to get to and handle calls. The caller ID and number function enables me to know what calls to accept and which ones to ignore. The answering system works really nicely and can store a lot of message and many messages. You can load up a directory of up to 50 contacts and the phone stores as many as the last 50 numbers to have called so that you can dial back easily if necessary.

I have no complaints about this phone.I studied it carefully before I purchased it.It is a delight to own such an outstanding model.I will remember AT&T in the future if and when I am in need of new telephone equipment. This one is certainly top notch.

EDIT to the review: I have recently discovered that batteries for the handsets are very hard to find.So hard that I gave up and bought another phone system.I'm not allowed to change the actual rating for this product, but consider it to be lowered to 3 stars.

If you run asterisk, there is no other choice. This card is truly plug and play.Just don't be an idiot like me and forget to plug in the power to the card :)Thankfully there is a nice error message in dmesg that states, "Are you sure you plugged the power cable in" to remind you.
