Grandstream Handy Tone 286 HT-286 One Line, All in One FXS SIP VoIP Analog Adapter Review

Grandstream Handy Tone 286 HT-286 One Line, All in One FXS SIP VoIP Analog Adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The GrandStream HT-286 is a fantastic product, and serves its role as an analog-to-voip adapter quite well. Call quality is great, and the featureset is pretty good for an entry-level unit such as this. I am currently using this model as the ATA for my home phone setup and couldn't be happier with it.

HOWEVER:
I'm looking at Amazon's current price on this item (via a reseller): $75.99 + 19.99 Shipping. This is absolutely absurd, bordering on highway robbery. I would urge anyone considering this product to shop around: this model can be found brand new at other reputable online VoIP dealers for around $30 shipped. With a $30 pricetag, the HT-286 is a fantastic value and will serve the needs of most home users well. If you're willing to pay almost $100 for an ATA, do yourself a favor and go for the Linksys SPA2102 or SPA3102 which has a much larger featureset.

Panasonic KX-TG5634M 5.8 GHz FHSS GigaRange? Digital Cordless Answering System with Four Handsets Review

Panasonic KX-TG5634M 5.8 GHz FHSS GigaRange? Digital Cordless Answering System with Four Handsets
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I recently purchased this versatile cordless phone system and am very pleased with it. All of the features are convenient and work well and the voice quality is very good. The four handsets may at first seem excessive, but actually they provide convenient access to a phone no matter where one is in one's house. For example, I now have enough handsets to add them to the kitchen and main bathroom, which can be quite handy at times. Also convenient is the fact that only the main unit requires a phone outlet -- the three extension units requires only power outlets for their chargers. Another feature I like is that each handset can store up to 50 names and phone numbers. And, once programmed in one handset, entries can easily be tranferred to the other handsets if desired. Another convenient feature is that the system can be used as an intercom, with each handset capable of calling each of the other handsets. This is the most complete and most convenient phone system I've ever had and I like the quality and reliability of Panasonic products. If you want the features of this versatile phone system with fewer handsets please consider model KX-TG5633 which has two extension units or KX-TG5632 which has only one extension unit.

Product Description:
What's Better Than One 5.8 GHz Phone? Four Panasonic 5.8 GHz Phones
Now, Panasonic has made made it easier to enjoy all the benefits of our functional, fashionable and flexible phone systems by putting four in one package. With this 4-in-1 bundle system you get 1 base unit, 3 charger and 4 handsets. And just like our expandable systems you only need one phone jack to operate the handsets. Plus, this dual-handset system uses Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum technology to ensure great sound, incredible clarity, long range and excellent security from eavesdropping.
Long Range, Clear Sound, Minimal Interference
Our 5.8 GHz Frequency-Hopping Spread Spectrum technology operates on a different wavelength with much less traffic than the 2.4 GHz technology while maintaining the great security, incredible clarity and long range. Have a wireless computer network, or thinking about getting one? 5.8 GHz technology will not interfere with wireless networks such as 802.11b or 802.11g Wi-Fi.
All-Digital Answering System
This phone system is equipped with an all-digital answering system for quick, easy retrieval of crystal-clear messages. Message operation has never been easier, with up to 15 minutes of recording time, plus such features as pre-recorded outgoing message, remote operation, Tollsaver, and skip-and-repeat. And don't worry about losing your messages when the power goes out-they're stored in flash memory so they're unaffected by power failure or interruptions.
Kids Sleeping? The Antenna Will Signal You Silently
This year, we've found a way to shorten the handset antenna while still maintaining the long range that Panasonic customers have become accustomed to. But what's even cooler is that the base of the antenna - which lights up--will alert you to an incoming call (or a message waiting for you2). Select from blue, green, amber or multi-color options. With Light-Up ID1, you can choose a light-up indicator color, blue, green, amber or multi-color, to link to your preprogrammed phone book data. The light-up indicator will flash quickly to show that you have an incoming call, and it will flash slowly to let you know you have a new message in your voice mailbox. So turn off the ringer, let the kids sleep, and never miss a call.
Put the Phone Down While You Talk
Having a handset speakerphone may not seem like such a big deal-until you have to call an automated phone system. By the time you press "2" and return the phone to your ear, you missed half the next option! And when they put you on hold for ten minutes, do you really need to hold the phone? Not with the handset speakerphone. Just listen along, and press a button or pick up when it's convenient. You'll think up other great uses, like letting Grandma and Grandpa listen to their new grandchild at the same time, painting your nails as you talk to your best friend, or just being able to set the phone down while you talk.
1. Requires subscription to name-and-number Caller ID, call waiting and/or voice mail services offered by certain local telephone companies for a fee. Name pronunciation may vary. Name pronunciation quality is based on names most commonly used in the U.S.A.2. Requires subscription to voice mail service from your phone company.
What in the box
Four handets, one base, three chargers, one telephone line cord, one AC adaptor for base unit, one wall mounting adaptor, four batteries, four handset covers (attached to handsets), three AC adapters for chargers

The damned things didn't work. It's hardly worth the money to return them, so I decided to just eat the cost.I'll probably try a different brand because, should I find a working pair, it would be a great way to expand the capacity of my network without the hassles of running new wires.

Product Description:
Even the best plans sometimes leave us needing more capacity. Wired Home Tel/Net line splitters are the perfect way to maximize the signal capacity of your installed network. Only two of the four pairs on a category network cable are used for standard 10/100 Ethernet applications, allowing you to piggy back telephone signals onto the unused pair for a single cable run for both systems; especially useful for expanding existing network runs. Sold in pairs, the Tel/Net line splitters feature two RJ45 ports for system input/output on one side, and a single Cat 5e output/input plug on the other for connecting to a network jack. Two network labeling placards and two sets of system identification inserts are included. Note: Jack 1 is wired according to TIA/EIA-568 A and B standards and should be used for the network connection.

Multi-Link Multi-link 4-port Fax Switch Review

Multi-Link Multi-link 4-port Fax Switch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Looking to economize by eliminating a dedicated fax line for our home office, we turned to this product to handle incoming calls and route the fax transmissions to the fax machine.

It DOES this, but "at a price." The "price" is an annoying ringback function that cannot be programmed out and that requires us to press "9" every time we answer the telephone. Customer service at this company is available only during "regular business hours" (i.e., approximately 9 to 5) and once contacted, not particularly helpful. One fellow at the service center delivered a short lecture on how this product worked, only to end with "you'll have to press '9' to disable the ringback". Great!

Another annoyance is that this product does not work with phone company voice mail - had to purchase a standalone voice mail unit to ensure we got our messages.

It does route the faxes to the fax machine as advertised, but the glitches make using it a less than "seamless" experience.

ADSL Splitter & Filter for Phone & Modem Lines Review

ADSL Splitter & Filter for Phone & Modem Lines
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Product arrived with the jack to the modem dead.Upon closer inspection I noticed how extremely light the box was, and I couldn't see any large inductors through the holes in the back of the phone jacks like I've always seen on other dsl filters. So, I decided to open it and take a look inside - the "filtering circuit" consisted of one capacitor and one tiny little inductor (typically filters have several of each, and the inductors are much larger).Even if the unit I received hadn't had a broken solder joint, and the connection to the modem worked, I can't imagine this would do much (if anything) to filter out the line noise.Terrible product.

Click Here to see more reviews about: ADSL Splitter and Filter for Phone and Modem Lines

Product Description:
When using a DSL connection with a telephone or fax machine, it's necessary to put a filter on the line to separate the signals for the modem (higher-frequency ADSL) from the signals for the phone & fax (lower-frequency POTS). Each phone or connection in the house will need a filter.
This filter/splitter has three RJ11 jacks to do just that. Connect the 'line' jack to your wall outlet cable, and connect the 'phone' and 'modem' jacks to your phone or fax line, and to the modem. Each jack is conveniently labeled.
Signal quality is preserved and your connections stay clear of static and noise from interference.

Southwestern Bell S60861 High Speed DSL Filter Review

Southwestern Bell S60861 High Speed DSL Filter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Noise interference became a big problem when I added Earthlink DSL service to the telephone line that also has six wired and two cordless telephones connected to it.I already owned three line filters and needed five more, so I purchased three from Southwestern Bell S60861 High Speed DSL Filters for $3.30 each, and two Z-275P2J filters from Excelus for about $14 each (Excelus was recommended by Earthlink and the Excelus website said that installations consisting of five or more phones required the use of the more expensive Z-275P2J, which had additional filtering capabilities). Noise problem solved.

Later on, I stumbled upon two brand X filters at garage sale for $0.05 each and bought them out of curiosity to see how well they compared to the more expensive Excelus units that I paid $14 a piece. Well, to my suprise there was no detectable difference because all my telephones sounded just as good. Bottom line: No matter how many telephones you have connected to telephone line that supplies your DSL signal, save yourself some money and buy the less expensive ones from Southwestern Bell.

Panasonic KX-TG2730S 2.4 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Phone with Answering System Review

Panasonic KX-TG2730S 2.4 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Phone with Answering System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had a cordless phone in one incarnation or another since the late 70's/early 80's, and this phone is by far the most superior in almost every way.Let's get down to the important features:
1.Range---I just returned 2 V-Tech 2.4Ghz phones for their incredible lack of range. My new Panasonic has a good signal over 300 feet away from the base.My V-tech, a dismal 50 feet.
2.Sound quality---this phone has no static, and the sound quality of the receiver and the digital answering machine are great.
3.Ease of Use---all the buttons look intimidating at first, but this phone helps walk you through the more daunting tasks, and was easy to set up the directory on the handset. Speaking of which, a feature you'll absolutely love if you add additional handsets---the ability to transfer your directory from one phone to the next in seconds!Way cool!
4.Expandability--this system allows you to add up to 8 phones. And each phone can be programmed to be a room monitor, a great feature if you can't figure out why no one answers from the family room (because the tv is too loud), or to listen in on the baby's room.
5.Customizable--the phones can be customized by color (you can buy 3 different colors of handsets), and each handset has 6 different ringer styles (one very cool two tone ring that is very quiet and nice for a bedroom).
Bottom line, this is the best phone system I've ever had.Comparable in price to the V-Tech line, but with much better quality throughout!Only gripe---it needs battery backup on the main unit during a power outage.Otherwise, great job Panasonic!

Siemens Gigaset Designer Digital Cordless Phone with Color Display, Bluetooth Connectivity and Answering System (SL785) Review

Siemens Gigaset Designer Digital Cordless Phone with Color Display, Bluetooth Connectivity and Answering System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've gone through a number of dissatisfying $100 Panasonic 2.4GHz phones, and tried a Philips VOIP841 (terribly scratchy audio), and decided that maybe I should just buy a higher end model to get some actual quality.

I bought this and an extra handset (SL78H), and I am generally happy with its performance. Our apartment is 70' x 21', in an old brownstone with numerous plaster/brick walls.I originally had the basestation in our home-office at one end of the apartment, and was experiencing some drop off at the other side of the house.I corrected this by moving the basestation into the next room over, so now it's fine at 55' in one direction, and 15' in the other.

The audio is very good, and of course the styling is nice, too. Here are my issues with the phone:

1) The Caller ID list shows numbers and when, but NOT names. You have to further scroll and click on an entry to see name details. The screen is so high resolution, the phone could easily have a third line of info or be more efficient with space. There is a LOT of dead space in the call list.

2) From the screensaver, getting the in/out call list requires a minimum of **4** clicks, and optionally a scroll, to get to.This is ridiculous, and should have a soft or hard key from the "home" screen

3) Only one handset can view the call list at a time.If one handset is looking at the call list, the other will just beep at you if you try to do the same.

4) The screensaver should have an option to overlay info like the time/date

5) I bought a Plantronics Voyager Pro specifically to use with this phone. Most of the time it's great and they get along well. But maybe 1 out of 4 times I they unpair, and then I have to actually restart the phone to get them to work together again.I am using them within 4' of each other. The Plantronics works FINE with my Blackberry Bold, never an issue.

6) Wireless transfer over BT is SLOOOOOOOW.Moving a 200K screensaver took like a minute. This is probably a general problem with BT.If you want faster, then you have to remove the back cover (!!!) to get to the USB port.

Now despite those frustrations, I'd still recommend the phone if you don't mind spending the coin. That is, the basestation w/phone plus another phone makes for around $320.It performs better than any other cordless I've had, and looks better, too.

Siemens 8825 Gigaset 2.4 GHz 2-Line Expandable Cordless Speakerphone with Answering System Review

Siemens 8825 Gigaset 2.4 GHz 2-Line Expandable Cordless Speakerphone with Answering System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a great multi-line, multi-handset, cordless phone system. It's a big improvement over the previous generation from Siemens (the Gigaset 2420), and it's far better than the Panasonic system that I bought (the KX-TG4000B).
Gigaset 8825 features that I love:
1. HANDSETS -- The handsets are "dense" - just heavy enough to feel solid and high quality - much better than the old, light, "plastic", cheap ones from the Gigaset 2420 system. The handset speakerphone is a feature I didn't think I would want or need, but it works great. The ability to give each handset your own "name" (like kitchen, or family room, or upstairs bathroom) makes the intercom capability much more useful than trying to remember where handset #3 is!!!
2. BASE STATION -- The speakerphone works fine - almost as good as a Polycom speakerphone. The "MUTE" function on the base station works great - I just wish that the handsets had a mute! The base station has attractive clear backlit buttons for some functions, like Speakerphone/Mute, Calls, Voice-Mail, Intercom, Flash, etc.But it does NOT have clear backlit buttons for the telephone number keypad used for dialing - a big flaw.
3. ON-LINE PRODUCT REGISTRATION -- May seem like a trivial thing, but I love the fact that Siemens lets you register your purchase on-line via the web site.I wish that the registration process directly solicted feedback -- They currently only ask for the essentials.
4. MULTI-LINE MADE EASY -- Unlike the Panasonic KX-TG4000B, you can easily join a call already in progress. So, if Gramma calls and one family member answers the call from one of the cordless handsets, anybody else can easily join the call by pressing "TALK" on one of the other handsets or the base station. On the Panasonic KX-TG4000B, the first person to answer must "invite" others to join using a complicated Conference feature.
Gigaset 8825 FLAWS:
1. HANDSETS -- Although significantly improved over previous generation (2420) handsets, the 8800 handsets still lack a "MUTE" button -- critical for conference calls.Siemens needs to add an explicit physical button to quickly select MUTE (when the baby starts crying), not just a "menu item".Also, the telephone number keypad used for dialing still has black plastic buttons with no back-lighting.This makes it impossible to dial in the dark.Siemens needs to make the telephone number dialing buttons clear and back-lit, on both the handsets and the base station. And, there is NO way to start a new call on Line #2 -- when you press "TALK" it always selects Line #1, without giving you a choice. The only way to get Line #2 is if one of the lines is already in use -- then it gives you a choice (e.g., Join line #1, or Use line #2).Finally, the handsets need explicit buttons for volume, just like the base station.Using the menu system on the handset to change the volume is tedious and time-consuming.
2. HANDSET CHARGING CRADLE -- The new handset charging cradles do NOT have a light indicating that the phone is charging. There should be a RED light indicating that the phone is charging and needs charging, and a GREEN light indicating that the phone is already fully charged.
3. BASE STATION -- As mentioned earlier, the telephone keypad needs clear and back-lit number buttons for dialing in the dark. The base station also needs a rechargeable battery back-up, in case of power outage.
4. DIRECTORY -- Although you can "transfer" directories of names and phone numbers from one handset to another, a centralized directory always shared across the entire system would be a huge improvement for home environments.
5. VOICE QUALITY -- Although voice quality is greatly improved, I would still pay a premium price for a cordless phone with higher quality voice. Why can't somebody make a cordless phone that sounds like a wired phone?I want CD quality voice on my cordless phone!
CONCLUSION -- The Siemens Gigaset 8825 is the best multi-line, multi-handset, cordless phone system I have ever owned. But, if Siemens makes additional improvements, I'll buy the next model to get needed enhancements.

The lightweight handset provides call transfer, conferencing, intercom, and room monitoring. It weighs just 7 ounces and has controls for volume, call waiting, flash, and last-number redial. AT&T 954 Expandable 4-Line Corded Speakerphone with Intercom (Black) Review

AT&T 954 Expandable 4-Line Corded Speakerphone with Intercom
Average Reviews:

When I was renovating my house, I considered installing an expensive phone system. My alarm contractor suggested that I save my money and by several AT&T 854/954 phones (both models are basically the same phone). It haspaging and intercom, conference calling, call transfer etc. Everything thatthe expensive systems have... without the high cost. I have these all overmy house and I love this system; especially the paging - I hate having togo upstairs to tell my daughter that she has a phone call! I highlyrecommend buying several (two or more) of these phones over an expensivephone system. It does the same thing for a lot less. Note, however, onedifference is that with these phones, you need an AC plug for each unit; ona system you don't. The only draw-back, but if you can live with that minordifference, you'll save yourself over $1000 compared to a professionalsystem.

GE - 5.8 GHZ EDGE Speakerphone w Digital Answering system with two handsets Review

GE - 5.8 GHZ EDGE Speakerphone w Digital Answering system with two handsets

We've used VTech, Uniden, and AT&T cordless phones in the past and have been satisfied. The GE Edge is truly awful. The two cordless phones had extremely poor reception... we could barely hear calling in and out. The phone attached to the answering machine was the only good one but who wants to be tethered to the base?

Terrible product. We replaced it with a Uniden set.

AT&T TL74108 5.8 DSS Corded/Cordless Answering System (Black) Review

AT&T TL74108 5.8 DSS Corded/Cordless Answering System
Average Reviews:

I bought the TL74108 system and then found out AT&T doesn't sell additional handsets to expand this system.Well I bought the TL71108 system that comes with three handsets for about 76.00 at Best Buy.Deregistered all the handsets in both sets and registered them to the TL74108 and now I have a system with 4 handsets!I purchased the TL71108 at Best Buy because on the box is says it needs the same model handset as my TL74108 system says, to get additional handsets. My guess is the model TL70008 is just an unregistered phone. The owners manual tells you how to deregister the phones and how to re register them to the phone base. If you lost the owners manual you can get it online at the AT&T web site. Hope this help people out there wanting to expand their system!I am happy with the phone because I like the intercom system in has.

Product Description:
The AT&T TL74108 5.8 GHz Digital Corded/Cordless Phone with Dual Handsets and Answering System has many value-added features that make it an ideal choice for busy homes. By employing Digital Spread Spectrum Frequency Hopping technology on the 5.8 GHz spectrum, the TL74108 offers better sound quality, enhanced range, and increased security compared to phones that operate on a lower bandwidth, such as 2.4 GHz phones. The TL74108's cordless and corded handsets provide both flexibility and security, all from a single phone jack.
Both the base and the handset feature speaker phones and the system is expandable allowing use of up to four handsets through a single phone jack. An intercom allows you to talk between handset and base, and you can transfer calls between them, as well as hold a conference between an outside line and up to two handsets. A built-in digital answering machine system records messages on microchips for reliable performance, instant access to messages, and the ability to selectively save and delete messages. The phone supports caller ID and call waiting. The phone system is table and wall mountable for flexibility in placement.

Panasonic DECT 6.0 3-Handset Expandable Digital Cordless Phone with Answering System and ChoiceMail (KX-TG7433B) (Black) Review

Panasonic DECT 6.0 3-Handset Expandable Digital Cordless Phone with Answering System and ChoiceMail

After my last Panasonic DECT 6.0 3-phone system inexplicably stopped working, I sought a similar replacement set.I've generally found Panasonic phones to be very reliable and figured my last purchase was simply a lemon (occasionally happens to the best).I ended up purchasing the KX-TG7433.The first thing I have to say is that the phone is gorgeous. The black shiny finish is much more sleek and attractive than the previous bland beige Panasonic I owned. The display is also much larger and vivid with a high-contrast black on gray LCD with large easily readable characters. The LCD and keypad are both well illuminated when any button is pushed. The time and date are prominently displayed on the LCD in standby mode. When you have a missed call or message waiting, it is also clearly displayed on the handset LCD, as well as a flashing amber LED on top of the handset. The set comes with three handsets, a base with built-in digital answering machine, and two charging bases for the extra handsets. In addition to the time and date, the LCD also displays icons for phone book, menu, and redial above their respective buttons. The center menu joystick is nice and intuitive, but it also brings about my only gripe. On my previous Panasonic phones, the most important buttons (caller ID, voice mail, redial, and phone book) were all one touch access. On this model, you have a few one touch items (mentioned above), but most features have to be accessed through the menu. Phone book items entered on one handset are automatically shared with the other handsets.

Voice quality is excellent as usual for Panasonic. Although I personally would prefer the volume to be a tad bit louder at the higher end, both the handset and speaker phone have adequate loudness and clarity for most people. There are no sudden drop outs or other sound issues like I occasionally experienced with the prior DECT 6.0 phone. The phone features talking caller ID, which is really cool.A female robotic voice will announce (or sometimes comically try her best to announce), the name of the caller (the voice cannot be changed, like on a GPS).The announcement is loud and clear and really comes in handy because you can decide whether or not to answer the phone if you are away from the handset, without disrupting whatever you're doing. The voice will also function as an alarm clock and even alert you when the battery is low. This model also has a new feature called "Choice Mail", which allows you to view caller ID info for pending messages and selectively choose and play them in any order.Sadly, this feature only works with the built in digital answer machine. If you subscribe to your telephone service provider's voice mail service, as I do, you're out of luck. Panasonic did not completely leave telecom voice mail service subscribers out of the equation. There are separate icons in the menu for the built-in answer device and subscription voice mail service.Like previous Panasonic models, the handset willautomatically dial your voice mail service access number if you select the option. If you do plan to use the built-in answer service, it offers 18 minutes of record time and the choice mail feature, so that's a major plus. However, I can't comment on the built-in voice mail quality because I don't use the feature. The phone also features a privacy mode which allows you to choose periods when all, or select, phones will alert you with visual lights instead of an audible ring, and call block mode which allows you to block unwanted numbers from ringing.Battery life is better than average.Even with all the extra bells and whistles like talking caller ID and the larger LCD, I still get basically the same battery life, (approx 2 days between charges with several hrs accumulated talk time), as my previous phone which had a smaller dimmer LCD and non-illuminated keypad.I believe I can get even more battery life, because I have yet to hear the robotic battery alarm. However, I tend to recharge when the meter reaches one bar, just to be on the safe side. This model still uses the AAA size Ni-MH batteries.

I am really happy with this phone, especially at the current price. It's an unbeatable bargain. It has features galore, good sound quality, solid build, and a gorgeous design.

Fluke PRO3000 Tone and Probe Kit Review

Fluke PRO3000 Tone and Probe Kit
Average Reviews:

The Fluke 3000 is a great tool. It's designed use is for the computer and telecommunications fields. But it works great to find wires in walls too.
Ever wonder where that sneaky electrician ran a wire?Turn the circuit off, this tool isn't made to work at 120vac, then connect the transmitter to the wires. As long as the wires are not shorted together (like a light switch turned on, or something plugged in) you will find the wire easily. To make sure you have the correct wires, simply touch them together briefly, and the tone will change, verifying that you have the correct pair.

Works great through lath and plaster walls for pinpoint wire location.

Use the SmartTone capability of the Pro3000 Analog Tone Generator to identify the right pair. When touching the wires together and momentarily shorting the far end of a cable pair, the SmartTone technology will change the cadence of the tone generated. This tone change you hear through the probe positively verifies the correct wire pair. SmartTone provides five distinct tones for exact pair identification.
