Average Reviews:

I am very pleased with this product. It was very easy to setup, in fact it only took about 30 minutes and that included transferring my cell phone book. The phone seems to work great with my bluetooth headset with minimal interference. I had a AT&T bluetooth phone prior and though my listeners could hear me, I had significant interference and static. This phone does not have bluetooth on the handset only with the base, a slight drawback but not enough to be disappointed. The menu setup was easy and not too complicated with too many options to manage. The manual is needed to clarify what each item does but in general, it was easy to read. I am using it as a 2 line phone in a home office and the speaker on the base is clear and easy to use. The handset speaker is not quite as strong as others I have used but that's not too big a deal since I mostly use the base for speakerphone. Plus, the bluetooth is the real benefit. I like that you can use your voicemail service or the base unit and it can be optional on either line.

DSL Splitter with Noise Filter, Intellinet Review

DSL Splitter with Noise Filter, Intellinet
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought 2 of these. Neither of them worked. One of them didn't work at all. And the other one produced so much static that a phone conversation was not possible. I wound up using a standard phone line splitter and an old 2-Wire DSL filter. I will throw these away. I don't normally write reviews. But these devices caused so much frustration that I felt obligated to warn others. My experience may be atypical. But I am concerned that the defenct rate may be high if the 2 DSL splitters I received don't work.

Average Reviews:

This phone is appropriately named. I have just given this to my elderly mother, so it has not yet had much use, but so far she is very pleased. She can hear much better than on any other "volume control" phone we have tried for her... and there is much more volume available that she has not used. She didn't think any phone could reach a volume "too loud" for her. Her hearing loss is significant in the high register, so the tone adjustment is also a nice benefit. This phone has many excellent features.

I purchased the SL82558 base unit with 5 handsets at Sam's Club, then later added 4 more handsets (SL80108) from Amazon.I spread them out in various buildings around my ranch. The furthest building from the base unit is about 200'.It works great, even at that distance, clean and clear.I do not yet know what the distance limit is.The intercom and call transfer features are handy and easy to use.The units are compact, and the buttons are easy to read and press.Adding additional handsets to the base station is simple.I do not use the answering machine capability, so I won't comment on that.My only wish is that the handset would display the time-of-day.That would be handy in all the outbuildings and rooms without clocks. It's a fine cordless phone in my opinion. I have no complaints. The base units on Amazon are AT&T SL82218 DECT6.0 Digital Dual Handset Answering System (Titanium and Carbonite), AT&T SL82318 DECT 6.0 Digital Three Handset Answering System (Silver/Gray), AT&T SL82418 Four Handset Answering System, and AT&T SL82558 DECT 6.0 Expandable Cordless Phone with Digital Answering System - 1 Base, 4 chargers, 5 Handsets

Uniden TRU9496 2-Line Corded/Cordless Digital Answering System Review

Uniden TRU9496 2-Line Corded/Cordless Digital Answering System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was looking for a system to replace an aging Siemens 8825.
After trying the Panasonic KX-TG6700B (defective), the
Motorola MD7081 and MD7091 (both have terrible sound quality),
and the AT&T EP5962 (poor button layout and feel and display) I decided to
try a Uniden product. So far, the TRU9496 is getting the job done.

What's good:

1.Good size, feel and layout.
2.Easy to set up.
3.Speaker volume on the base and handset speakerphones
Is excellent.
4.Sound quality on the base and handset is excellent.
5.Phonebook can be searched by first letter of the name.
6.Phonebook allows two phone numbers per name.
7.A handset can communicate with another handset directly,
Like a walkie-talkie.
8.Base display shows how many messages are in the answering
Machine separately for each line.
9.Base and handset displays show date and time.
10.A waterproof handset is available (TWX977).
11. Keypad on the handset is backlit.

What's not so good:

1.Range is ok but could be a little better.
2.Ringer volume control is not great. There are only two settings:
Low is to low, and high is too high.

This phone system should be seriously considered for its sound clarity
And excellent set of features.

AT&T White Trimline Telephone (1909) Review

AT&T White Trimline Telephone
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Very poorly designed. When you hold the receiver in your right hand, in a way that is natural for the average person, your fingers automatically hit the buttons they inconveniently placed on the outer side of the receiver. I was on the phone and hit the flash button repeatedly even though I was well aware the button was there and was trying to avoid it. You can't avoid it unless you want to put your hand in a very odd position, and get cramps. No kidding. In order to hold the receiver and not hit the flash button you have to cramp up your hand into an odd position and hope you don't drop the phone.

And you cannot place the phone on your shoulder to hold it, if you temporarily need to use both hands for something else. And, for those of us who still use an attachable shoulder cradle (a.k.a. shoulder rest), you cannot attach it to this phone due to the buttons on the outside of the receiver.

I don't want to be mean, but honestly, the person who designed this phone should be fired.

Outgoing sound was bad - the person I was talking to reported a hissing noise.

Incoming sound was actually good, but that does not make up for the fact that holding the phone, what should be the simplest thing to do, can't be done comfortably.

And just as an FYI - I've tried them all; VTECH 265, ATT 265, and ATT 1909

AT&T 265 - Trimline Telephone with Caller ID & Call Waiting

VTECH COMMUNICATIONS INC 265 WHT Trimline Telephone

and they are all the same design - don't get any of these if you want to be able to comfortably hold the phone, let it rest on your shoulder, or use a shoulder cradle (a.k.a. shoulder rest). See my photos of this ATT 1909 for an example of what I mean.

If you want a very simple corded phone I can tell you the ATT Trimline 230 has worked well for me for about 20 years. The 230 model is now called the AT&T Corded Trimline Phone with 13-Number Memory (210), slightly modified. I've just ordered some 210s, for my MagicJacks, and I'll be sure to review them, to see if they are as good as the 230s use to be.

AT&T 924 4-Line Speakerphone
Average Reviews:

I bought 4 phones for my small business. For the 1st 3 months, everything worked well except for the handset design. The handset easily slips off the cradle and if it not placed directly near your mouth when you are speaking, your voice is not heard by the customer. By about 3 months, one line of one phone stopped working. At this point, the hold buttons are intermittent. I would not buy this model again.

Had continuous problems of slow and dropped DSL Internet connections and static on telephone. Several past calls to Verizon had yielded no help. Told me my telephone wire was too long - - which made no difference. Finally reached a Verizon rep who seem to know what he was talking about and he said static on the phone and slow/dropped Internet connections were likely related - - to replace the DSL filters. After some research and reading the reviews on Amazon.com, I bought and installed two Belkin DSL filters-- the problem was cured! No more static, and the Internet connection is now fairly reliable.

I have had this phone for about a year and a half. It's not a bad phone, works solidly, and you can't beat the price. Would I get it now? Definitely not. My issues with this phone:

1) Button response is slow (Can't press "on" and immediately dial a number, for instance).

2) No voice mail indicator.

3) No headset speakerphone.

4) Unit ships with NiCd battery, which dies faster than you can sneeze. I bought a NiMH battery from Staples and it's been fine ever since.

5) Looks aren't as nice as some other phones, it's also a bit larger and heavier than most.

6) Range could be better.

RCA RC920 Wireless Phone Jack Extension Review

RCA RC920 Wireless Phone Jack Extension
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using a set of these for over a year, and they are a godsend but not perfect. The good news; I use it to connect my Tivo (Tivo needs to dial in every night to update its program data) and it was the perfect solution for a tough spot, since there's no phone jack anywhere near my television. I have also used it to surf the web with a dial-up connection, with no real problems. Its fine, even through an extension cord! The bad news; I've tried to use for a phone, and that rally didn't cut it. It worked, but its a bad connection. I couldn't tolerate it. So I dispute the earlier comment that it can't be used for data. For me, its only use is for data, not voice! For certain situations, its ideal.

AT&T 964 Corded Expandable 4-Line Intercom Speakerphone with Digital Answering System (Graphite) Review

AT&T 964 Corded Expandable 4-Line Intercom Speakerphone with Digital Answering System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought 3 of these phones and tried out 3 more... they came from 3 separate locations. All 6 had the same problems!!
Minor problem: Intercom never worked.
Minor problem: Set-up is difficult to scroll through. You have to go through many options to find the one you want, because of poor organization & layout.
MAJOR problem: This is why we returned the phones. When you receive an incoming call on any line, if either Auto Attend or DTAD picks up to either transfer call or take a message, whatever happens from hereon out, when the caller hangs up, the 964 phone will continue to HOLD THE LINE for approx. 3 minutes while the phone company comes on with their automated message of "If you'd like to make a call please hang up and dial again." followed by a loud off-the-hook beep-beep-beeping. Finally, the line will be released. This also happens if you're talking on one line and someone calls trying to leave a message on another line. You can hear the other phone being "off the hook" so to speak and it is irritating beyond description. This has been thoroughly researched and tested on our end and it ahs nothing to do with our line, the region we're in, or other phones on the system. We eliminated everything and the problem persisted! We went through dozens of calls to Lucient to get help and Customer Service was unknowledgable and unwilling to give more than surface assistance. Research Team was very thorough and tried a lot, but they were unsuccessful at solving the problem. To complicate the problem a little further, after a couple of weeks with that problem, the line-holding suddenly became sporadic. That couldn't be eliminated to why it did/didn't work... The best answer we got was that, "These are very new phones and we don't have everything smoothed out yet."
My advise from much painful experience is to NOT BUY these phones, unless you relish the development of your patience through coping with numerous problems on your own.

When in my home office, I am on the phone 5-7 hours a day.I have tried many combinations of phones and headsets and have never been satisfied with the voice quality.I also run a wireless network and have had problems in the past with 2.4 Ghz phones causing interference. The Plantronics CT12 is the answer to all my problems:
* portable - small belt unit is light, offers great battery life and includes all the features I need
* great headset - sound quality is equal to that of a handset (people do not know you are on a headset); comfortable with two fit options, Firefly function is nice bonus
* Caller-ID - included on belt unit, works as expected
* 2.4 Ghz - range is good, does not cause interference with my wireless network (previous phones from Panasonic and others have)
Only negative is that you cannot answer or otherwise use the phone while it is charging (must remove the belt unit from the charger). All in all, highly recommended.

Average Reviews:

I read the one other review and was a bit concerned.I generally like Motorola products, I have used them personally and professionally for years and had very few problems, I decided to try this phone system.I agree with the other reviewer, the phones are cell-phone-ish if that makes sense.Yes they are light and they are plastic.I have no problem with that, all this electronics is Chinese crap anyway. The phones have Li-Ion batterys and that is a major asset, quick charge and long life, and very easy to replace.Range is good, but keep in mind this is a cordless phone, not a ham radio.I have a 3200ag ft house all one level. The one phone is 80 feet from the base, good strong signal and call quality is fine.Yes a blinking light for voicemail would have been nice but its not required. The units are light and small but large enough to fit your hand and decent ear-mouth distance for ease of use.If you were doing extensive calling a headset might be usefull.Set up was not complicated, very much like a cell phone. Do read the big book of directions after the "quick start" pamphlet, it has some important instructions you willl need.

Over all a stong B+ rating

Uniden DECT 6.0 Corded/Cordless Digital Answering System with Dual Keypad and Two Cordless Handsets
Average Reviews:

I purchased these phones to replace one with a few less features but was very good quality. My older developed a problem in the answering machine part. I shopped around looking for phones that had "speaker" phone capabilities on all of the units, the corded base and two cordless extensions. The phones offered the features I wanted but aren't very good quality with respect to sound or operation. The cordless phones have to stay reasonably close to the base or the received signal fades in and out. I'm not talking about taking it outside, I mean in the next room and within sight of the base. The speaker phone sound quality is fairly good on the base unit but marginal on the cordless units. That might be because of the issue of not working well when a little distance away from the base. It does have lighted keypads on the cordless phones, a nice feature that isn't on the base. The base does have a display screen that illuminates when the handset is picked up. All in all, the phones work alright, I was just a bit disappointed in the sound and distance issues. I tried to save a few dollars purchasing phones with a lot of nice features and they do have several nice ones. I could have spent more money and bought better qality but that's true of any product on the market.

Would I recommend this phone? Yes, if you have a limited budget and want to be frugal, buy it. It works and works dependably and I suppose that's all that matters. I am spoiled because it isn't quite as good as the one it replaced.

I just rec'd this system (w/total of 5 handsets in the set: #2080-5) a few days ago from a different vendor and so far I am very happy!!I had been using the Uniden TRU9485 and loved that phone system with one glaring exception:Two of the four phones furthest from the base kept cutting out constantly, with the message "out of range" on the screen despite only being maybe 50 feet or less from the base in my one-story home.Made those 2 phones virtually unusable. This was a 5.8 GHz phone but it was no good for me!

So, here I am with the new DECT 1.9 GHz version and so far, no problem. It has virtually all the same features as the TRU with slightly different cosmetics. The Uniden 2080-5, with the 5 handsets (we have a larger home) do have a cute little addition:two of the silver/black phones have a brightly colored frame: one in metallic red, the other in met. blue - kinda kicky.Xln't sound, including the speakerphones, which is a feature I use 70% of the time.Phone directory holds 70 listings and can be auto-dialed with a quick press of the button.Enter your phone numbers and names just once and you can then send it to all the other extension phones without having to retype them in individually. Each phone can also add their own entries.Has intercom bet. the extension phones, Caller ID, which I don't use, the usual digital answering machine with up to 4 min. message allowed per caller. But, book says when retrieving your messages remotely, after listening to 4 min. of messages, machine will stop and require you to push 2 buttons if you need to hear more messages: a bit of a bother, but 4 min. of messages IS quite a lot for most, unless you have a lot of wordy friends who read to you daily from War and Peace.Keypad and screen light up nicely for night viewing by pressing any key. Each phone has a little light on top that will flash to let you know an unheard message is available. You can then play back that message from any of the extension phones, a nice convenience so you don't have to go to where the base is located to retrieve them. Ans. machine will emit a message beep if there are any new ones for you or you can turn that alert off.A lot of options with these phones: individual volume controls for both earpiece and speakerphone, method of answering the phone (press any key to answer or automatically have it connect with caller by just picking up the phone from the charger or base) - are just a few. Most important to me:the distance from base doesn't seem to affect the connections - yay!! A very long talk time is present - 12 hours stated, I believe.I've talked a couple hours without the battery signal even stepping down.Book says can leave phone off the charger for up to seven days, but I'm more conservative.

Oh, for those of you that don't know - another wonderful feature:Only the ans. machine base needs to be plugged into a phone jack. All the extensions only need an electrical outlet, no phone connection!Little complaints:too few choices for types of ring when receiving a call, wish there were a couple more letters allowed when entering the names & nbrs. into the auto-dial directory (16 letters/spaces allowed). But, those are petty. This is an excellent phone or my name isn't Bill Gates (okay, just kidding about the name!); you'll be pleased! ... If you need a two-line, expandable cordless phone system, the pickings are pretty slim. Of the few out there, the Panasonic system is the best. I previously owned both early and late generations of the Siemens Gigaset systems. Both were POSs. No wonder Siemens got out of that line of business.

The Panasonic system has great sound quality and pretty much every bell and whistle you could want.

Is it perfect? No. Here's what I'd add or change in the next version of this phone:

1. The (user selectable) flashing indicator on the handsets for new voice messages is great. But it works only with messages left on the machine's built-in recorder and not messages left on phone company-based voicemail? C'mon Panasonic, this is trivial to implement. Lots of much cheaper phones can do this. Even most caller ID boxes have a message light. Silly omission.

2. When you clear the missed called list from any handset or the base, it should likewise clear the missed called list on every other station. Just like when you listen to new messages and the blinking indicator stops flashing on every station. Annoying, basic user interface design flaw that would be so easy to correct in the next generation.

3. The ONE thing the Siemens Gigaset did that I miss is the ability to slip a handset into the charging base during a call and have it charge the battery and not drop the call. If you do this with the Panasonic, it hangs up. You could also initiate a call on the Siemens phone while in the charger by using a plug-in headset or the speakerphone feature. I'm sometimes on long conference calls and it would be nice to be able to do this when the battery is about to die.

4. A two-digit PIN for retrieving messages remotely? That's just ridiculous, Panasonic. C'mon... it should be at least 4 digits long. At least the PIN is user-selectable.

5. There are cheap (< $1) belt/pocket clips for the handsets available from Panasonic. You'll see an order form in the box. Geez, Panasonic. Think ya coulda sprung for a FREE one of those with the phone? It's little piece of plastic, for crying out loud. They snap on firmly and are particularly useful if you like to walk around while you talk with a plugged-in headset.

6. Speaking of headsets, another nice-to-have feature is Bluetooth connectivity between the handset and a wireless headset that you probably already own for your mobile phone.

7. Reduce the size of the transformer plug on the charger base. It's ridiculously large compared to similar devices (e.g. my mobile phone's charger). Move the transformer circuitry from the plug to the base itself. The base is mostly filled with air right now. The extra weight in the base would make it more stable anyway.

None of these are showstoppers for me. Overall I'm very satisfied with thesound quality in both speakerphone and held-to-your-ear modes, the peaceful coexistence of the 5.8 GHz with my WiFi network and microwave oven, the very adequate battery life and the system's ability to deal with my city's mandatory 10-digit dialing and four local area codes intelligently. It's also very important to me to be able to copy dialing directories between handsets and it's simple to do with this system.

Are you listening, Panasonic....? Bueller? Anyone?
