I was all hyped up about getting this phone and that feeling faded after only 24hrs of owning it. This phone represents a good try by Uniden, but I feel that it needs to go back for a version 2. First, for me, the ringers on this phone do not ring loud enough (with a few expectations)....Uniden does allow you to set the base station to ring, and it does ring loudly (too loudly at night) but that defeats the reason to have a cordless phone if you are attached to the base station all day. The LCD on the closed clamshell isn't very good. It is easier to read when the backlighting is off then when on. The hinge on my phone squeaked when opening and closing and the keys on the handset feel cheap, not what you should expect from at $250 phone. The software to program the phone is nice, easy to use, and made it really convenient to program in over 50 names and reminder dates, but it would have been nice if Uniden would have allowed you to download ringtones into the phone via the software and USB cable, rather then having to record it into the phone via a mic or a line setup. The color screen is nice and bright, but too small...its like 150 pixels X 150 pixels and the images you can download for your contacts become the size of a postage stamp CUT IN HALF!!Overall it is an average phone, not worth $250, maybe $160....all I know is mine is going back to the store for a refund. See you next time Uniden.

How Does Bluetooth Work?
Bluetooth technology has been incorporated into this phone to make it easy to communicate with either a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone or a wireless headset. You don't even have to think about it. Bluetooth doesn't require you to do anything special to make it work. The devices find each other and strike up a conversation without any user input at all. Now you can tap into your cell phone minutes to take advantage of your cellular plan, or just go hands-free using your land line for crystal-clear communication anywhere in the house.
How Does CellLink Work?
Uniden CellLink technology lets you easily take advantage of your cell phone's minutes. If you have a Bluetooth v1.1 compliant mobile phone and register it to the base, you can make or receive a call through your mobile line as well as your normal land line. To use your mobile line, press the Mobile soft key. The two lines will be completely independent on your ELBT595. For example, you can have one handset operating on the land line while another handset and the base unit participate in a three-way conference call on the mobile line. However, you cannot make or receive a land line call using a Bluetooth mobile phone, and a Bluetooth mobile phone will not ring when the ELBT595 receives a land line calI.

Easy, Powerful Features
Additional features include enhanced caller ID so you can see who's calling with a unique full color picture and distinctive ring. The digital answering system quickly access your answering system using your handset or your base. Volume settings adjust the ringer and speaker volumes on your handset. An advanced phonebook organizes your names and numbers, with special capabilities like storing four numbers per name and sorting names into groups.
You can easily update your phonebook settings using your computer with the USB connector and software included. Enjoy hands-free communication without wires using a Bluetooth headset or the hands-free speakerphone. Easily navigate features with a joystick and soft-key menus. Record your own ringer tones with the audio cable or handset microphone (cable included).
Compatible Handsets
This expandable base system is compatible with Uniden handset models ELX500, TCX400, TCX440, and TCX805. However, only the ELX500 is compatible the base system's Bluetooth and CellLink features.
What's in the Box
Handset (ELX500), base, rechargeable battery, power cord, USB cable, ringer record cable, belt clip, software CD-ROM, user's manual, registration/service information

Vtech LS5145 5.8 GHz Digital Cordless Phone System with Bluetooth Wireless Technology Review

Vtech LS5145 5.8 GHz Digital Cordless Phone System with Bluetooth Wireless Technology
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Don't let the title fool you.I'm not totally dissatisfied with the phone.I bought the base unit and one extension handset, and there's a lot to love about the phone.Unfortunately, the little things were overlooked, hindering this from being absolute perfection.Instead of wasting your time with a drawn out review, I'll bullet it out for you and let you make your own decision.

First some background.I've been a VTech fan for years, stemming back to the old 900MHz days and that ugly clear green phone I had that required the DSL filters to work correctly.I had a VTech i5871 (I think that's the model number) for YEARS....upwards of 6 if I recall, and it served me faithfully; at least the color handset extension did (which ended up becoming my primary, since the default black and white handset's buttons have a flaw where they won't press anymore after some use). That phone had it all: Great charging, headset jack, color screen, picture uploads via USB, recordable ringtones, belt clip, voicemail, caller ID, etc.The phone wasn't perfect; it didn't have a call timer (a minor nitpick) nor did it have a way to clear all voicemails at once without listening to them one by one, even through killing power (not so minor a nitpick).I could overlook these, as the phone itself was of the utmost top quality. However it was later discontinued by VTech, and I needed a phone with one extra extension as I have a significantly larger place than I used to.Enter this model.

For reference, I bought this from BBuy, not Amazon, because for whatever reason Amazon.com does not want to stock this model or its accessory, and I'm not keen on paying ~$55 for shipping.I want to throw this disclaimer: I acknowledge that some of my CONS below may be due to ignorance on how to use the device, but I scoured both the manual and the VTech website and could not find out how these are done.

** PROS **
- The form factor is very modern and upscale. You'd think it would be more expensive than it is.

- 65K color backscreen which supports pictures and animations.
- Lots of various ringers. Some of the default ones are actually quite fabulous.

- Call Timer!!

- Bluetooth allows you to connect a cell phone and make calls using your cell plan or take cell calls using your home phone, or link up a Bluetooth headset.

- Audio quality is very good; very little white noise can be heard in the background or on the speakerphone.

- Great range. My place is 967 square feet and I get crystal clear reception no matter where I happen to be.

- Recordable ringers.

** CONS **
- No standard headset jack.Come on VTech, you've had standard headset jacks on your phones for nearly a decade; what's the problem here?? This is the second VTech I've purchased where this feature was not available."Just use a BT headset!!!" you say?Well....

- Bluetooth headset is only supported FROM THE BASE.Meaning I can pair it to the base and if I'm just calling a friend or something, that works great, but I can't pair it to any of the handsets, so I can't really move anywhere.I also can't use it in the other room. What if I'm in the bedroom and need to call someone?I can't use the headset, because I have to go to the base to dial the call."Just dial the call from the handset and transfer it to the base!!" you say?Well....

- Inability to transfer calls from one handset to another or from handset to base.I'm literally appalled by the absence of this feature. What's the point of having these extensions if I can't send calls to them???? This has been a basic selling point of these expandable phones for YEARS.

- Inability to load your own pictures (this is a nitpick). My old VTech could do it; what's the problem here???

- Inability to set your area code (this is a nitpick).Meaning, if I set a specific area code, then I can isolate local calls, so when I dial them back the phone should not append 1+area code, only the 7 digits. The problem with this is that Caller ID does not always include the 1; in fact, rarely does it.So I have to force the phone to "manipulate" the number when I'm calling them back.

- Extension handsets require manual registration (This is a nitpick). My old VTech picked up new extensions automatically and assigned them in order. What's the problem here???

- Must force the base to send audio to the BT headset.Err, this defeats the purpose of using a headset.Headsets have the built-in ability to answer and terminate calls automatically; also, if I pair a headset I expect the phone to ALWAYS send audio to it until I turn the headset off or unpair it; since I'm forced to use the base for the headset, that means I always have to be sitting near the base when using the headset which, of course, defeats the purpose of using the headset when I might as well use speaker or a handset.Basically, the headset is useless as implemented.

- VTech's refusal to implement backwards compatibility even though it's obvious that the same radios are used in these phones. If I could use the older extension model on this I'd be ecstatic, since I know I could use that phone whenever I needed headset flexibility. But noooo....

Again, I want to stress that I do like the phone, I just wish VTech had gone all the way with its true potential. But that's way too many CONS for me, which is why I had to ding them two stars. The phone doesn't suck, it's just not as great as it clearly should and could have been.

UPDATE: Another negative. The primary handset refuses to hold a charge no matter what I do.I believe it's a symptom that has long affected VTech phones...or rather, the batteries VTech chooses to use, NiMH, Nickel Metal Hydride. That battery technology is poor for "overcharging" - that is, if you leave it on the charger without allowing it to discharge, eventually the battery will be rendered useless. That's why a lot of long-term-tech vendors have moved to LiIon - Lithium Ion - battery tech, as it doesn't suffer from that defect (though LiIon suffers from something totally different...it can only be charged a finite number of times and should not be discharged).

So in summary, the battery is useless and must be replaced. It says use VTech batteries only, but since the connector is a standard one, I'm going to see if I can track down a LiIon battery to replace this one.

VTech LS6245 DECT 6.0 Touch-Sensitive Bluetooth Expandable Cordless Phone System with Four LS6204 Accessory Handset Review

This is my 2nd vtech phone. I purchased because I needed 6 total extensions and I liked how they looked on the internet. I also thought the bluetooth feature would be nice.

No one in my family likes these phones (wife, son, daughter).

For example, the base station has very tiny red symbols on black that are very difficult to see. None of the buttons light up, so, even in a bright kitchen, you never know what buttons to push to forward, delete, skip, etc. without getting inches from the unit.

The handsets are also always dark, and only light-up when you pick them up. If you need to enter numbers, #, etc. when ordering something, you cannot see the numbers. You have to wait for the phone to light-up again.

We've lost many calls when picking up. For some reason, the phone disconnects when you touch "Home/Flash." There is no "Talk" button, and, we always have to rethink what to do with this phone since it is not like any other phone (work, cell, etc.).

The sharp square corners can actually dig into your ear when talking on the phone for a while too.

Overall, the phones look and sound great. They are just not easy to use, and my family is not happy I bought them. They want the old vtech phones back.

V-Tech LS6245 DECT 6.0 Expandable Cordless Phone with Caler ID, Answering Device, and Bluetooth Capability (Black with Silver Trim) Review

I've been in the market for a Bluetooth-enabled home phone for the past 10 months, but every review of such products has been more or less negative. I first caught a glimpse of this new phone at the the Engadget website [...] earlier in the year. After finding it at a local Fry's I purchased one with 3 extra handsets from Amazon. Here are my impressions after 3 days of use:

Things I Like:

1. Full soft-touch surface. No buttons, very nice styling. A key-lock activates after 10 seconds.
2. Speaker phone is loud and clear. Call quality is likewise loud and clear, but have to turn up the volume for cellular calls.
3. Separate buttons to make home and cellular phone calls.
4. Ability to join home and cellular calls into a 3-way conference.
5. Ability to make one home and one cellular call at the same time.
6. Different ringtones for incoming home and cellular calls allows you to differentiate between them immediately.
7. Automatic synchronization of the address book. You can add/edit the phone book entries on any handset (or base) and all handsets are synchronized immediately.
8. DECT 6.0 for minimal interference and good privacy.
9. Digital answering machine with all the requisite features (including access from another phone).
10. Price. I was expecting the base unit to cost at least $100. Extra handsets are only $39.95 at Amazon.

Features I Wish For:

1. Automatic download of phone book from cellular phones.
2. USB interface to synchronize phone book with PC/Mac.
3. Wall mount for the handset.
4. Ability to name each handset like "Kitchen", "Master Bedroom", "Garage", "Kid's Room", etc.Handsets are automatically named "Handset 1", "Handset 2", etc.
5. Night mode with ability to silence a subset of the handsets and lower the volume on others.

I still gave it 5 stars because of auto-synchronization and a feature set that is practical without being saddled by too many features (and complexity).
