Uniden TRU8885 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Phone with Answering System and Dual Keypads (Black/Silver) Review

I am quite pleased with this phone.I have had it a few months now and I have not had any problems.I had looked at buying this phone on eBay, but I found it at the same price here on Amazon (once you figure shipping and everything). The sound quality is very clear, and the range is quite good.It does not interfere with my wireless 802.11g network at all.I have only a few complaints. The buttons on the base station are small and not laid out too intuitively. You have to clear the Caller ID info on the handset(s) and the base station individually. And the ringer on the base station has 3 settings; Annoying, Very annoying, and Off (The handset ringers are pretty good though). The battery life so far has been fine.I like that you can transfer phonebooks between the handset and the base station, and that you can check messages from the base station or the handset.I researched quite a few 5.8GHz phones, including all of the similar Panasonics, most of the Motorolas, and a few of the VTechs. And this family of Uniden phones (there are 2 handset and 3 handset versions also) seemed to be the best.

AT&T EP5995 - 5.8GHz Expandable Cordless Answering System with Dial-In-Base Speakerphone Review

AT&T EP5995 - 5.8GHz Expandable Cordless Answering System with Dial-In-Base Speakerphone
Average Reviews:

After reviewing cordless phones and looking at them, We picked this one based on consumer report and buyer reviews in addition to features and looks of course. We also needed a multi handset system and this one can support up to 8 handsets. We also needed a system that would not interfere in our wireless computer network. We had a multi handset system which was 2 years old but did interfere and would often cause problems. This was super easy to install and set up. It is similar to using a cell phone and has many of the same features. We love the ability to display pictures and animations along with being able to name each handset which we named for each room they belong in. We have always had problems with knowing where our old handsets belonged and would have to find the empty base from which it had been taken. Another cool feature is that you can record your own music or sounds for your ringer if you want. We also love the intercom capability which our old system had but this is much better. We have had these for almost a month and have had no problems with them or any of the functions or features. We have not set up our directory yet so don't know how that part works yet. The handsets are a little larger than our old ones but still very nice looking and the small bases are very stable which is much better than our old ones. The base unit is excellent in that it is really easy to use all the features on it, it has buttons so you can use the base without the handset which is always nice to be able to answer your phone when someone forgot to replace the handset! It also has a battery storage place which takes the same battery as the system and will allow your base unit to work in case of a power outage. We didn't realize this when we purchased this but would have bought the extra battery at the same time had we known.

Uniden EXAi5580 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone w/ Answering Machine Base Review

Uniden EXAi5580 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone w/ Answering Machine Base
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've used Uniden cordless phones for years and years and have always been satisfied for the most part.I've used cordless phones at other people's homes which were made by other companies and they really didn't measure up, especially on the cheaper models.

I bought the EXAI5580 to replace both an older Uniden cordless and a fairly new answering machine that was completely inadequate because I couldn't skip through messages and couldn't change the maximum record time.

The 5580 does everything I need and more. The clarity is superb and better than my older Uniden phone. It's even removed excessive static on some calls - it sounds better than the corded phone! The answering machine records up to 4 minutes on a single call.(Anyone with a mother needs this feature.)You can even record up to ten minutes of a phone conversation, a feature I didn't even know the phone had until I read the instructions.

Just note that the phone itself is not digital (which would apparently make it more secure), but the answering machine is.For a completely digital phone you'll have to pay more.Still, for the price, this is probably the best cordless phone with an answering machine you can buy. This is easily one of the best cordless phones I've used in years - great features and a clarity I haven't experienced in years.

GE 29096GE1 Caller ID Box with Call Waiting Caller ID Review

GE 29096GE1 Caller ID Box with Call Waiting Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought two of these units in March 2003. I needed "Call Waiting Caller ID" capability and bought these units after an awful experience with Radio Shack's comparable product. I was immediately impressed by how much better these units worked, and indeed they do everything well. They even have a call timer (which I wasn't aware of). The only bad news is that I've had one of them fail. A few weeks ago it started complaining of low batteries, even though I'd put batteries in both units at the same time. Removing the batteries then putting them back in solved the problem for a week or two, but then the problem came back. Finally, the problem came back for good ... even new batteries couldn't solve it. Then the display went nutso, it started displaying the call counter even though the unit wasn't hooked up. It did that even after having no batteries in it for several days (I thought that might reset it). So I've sent the unit back to the company for repair (Texas). We'll see. The other unit continues to work fine. I like this unit well enough that I'm even considering buying a third one for another room ... and keeping my fingers crossed.

Cisco PAP2 Phone Adapter for Vonage Internet Phone Service Review

Cisco PAP2 Phone Adapter for Vonage Internet Phone Service
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am going to strictly comment on the Linksys PAP2. A lot of the reviews on here have been for the Vonage service. The Linksys PAP2 is NOT THE Vonage service, but one of many adapters you can use.

I am extreamly satisfied with my Linksys PAP2. It is small, light weight, and perfect for those who need to travel. The voice quality is excellent and people say I do not sound like I am talking over VOIP. There is no line noise, static, popping, etc.

I am giving this product 4 stars. Why? Because there is only ONE ethernet port. If you have a router, just connect the PAP2 to one of your available ethernet ports and you are good to go. If you do not have a router, consider getting another Vonage phone adapter with built in 4-port router. There are several.

Product Description:
With Vonage, you can make calls through the Internet, potentially save on long-distance charges, and access a rich assortment of call features. Plans start as low as $14.99 per month, and the Premium Unlimited plan offers unlimited calling to the U.S. and Canada for only $24.99 per month. And it's easy to use: For making and receiving calls,Vonage works just like a traditional phone service; no special access codes or account numbers are required.
Easy Hardware Setup

All Vonage plans let you enjoy the call features you've become accustomed to-call waiting, caller ID, voicemail, call forwarding, three-way calling, call return, repeat dialing, and reliable long distance-plus other features that may be new to you. For example, you can receive your voicemail as an email attachment, and you'll have a phone number that travels with you.Visit http://www.vonage.com/amazon to see which plan is best suited to your lifestyle and budget. The low monthly rates are quite reasonably priced,in our opinion, and with them you may save considerably compared to traditional phone service. International calls are available for additional low fees, with one economical exception: calls from the U.S.to Canada are treated like domestic long distance calls, rather than international. Vonage also supports short-form emergency 911 services, where available. (Dialing 911 requires activation and operates differently than traditional 911. See Vonage's website for details.)
This Vonage Internet Phone Service Starter Kit is quick and easy to install in your home or business. All you need is a high-speed Internet connection (cable or DSL modem) and a touchtone phone. Setup is simple: Just connect one end of the included Vonage-certified Linksys PAP2 phone adapter to your Ethernet router or gateway and the other end to your telephone. Then sign up for Vonage phone service. An extra port on the adapter allows you to attach an additional phone or fax machine. You'll have instant access to both phone lines, each with a separate number, and you can even assign them different area codes (subject to availability). You can still surf the web while talking on the phone or receiving faxes. The phone adapter includes a generous three-year warranty from the manufacturer.

Uniden DECT 1060 DECT6.0 Expandable Cordless Phone System with Call Waiting/Caller ID Review

Uniden DECT 1060 DECT6.0 Expandable Cordless Phone System with Call Waiting/Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Uniden has fixed some chronic flaws found in its previous phones, and left a few small flaws in.

THE GOOD:
*NO WIFI INTERFERENCE. This phone works well without interfering with today's (or tomorrow's) WiFi Networks
*SOUND QUALITY IS VERY GOOD, both receiving and transmitting. Uniden's microphones have been consistently horrible in the past, and I am delighted to see that they have fixed this.
*FORM FACTOR IS NICE. Not overly sleek and trendy, but not clunky at all.The most commonly used features are quick to access with only one or two button presses, with a few exceptions (see THE UGLY, below).
*GOOD RANGE. The lower frequency band of 1.9 GHz allows for a slightly greater range than the overhyped 5.8 GHz band.Works a little better through plaster walls.
*NAME YOUR HANDSET. Each handset is nameable. This greatly simplifies paging and conference calling.(Despite previous statements, multi-handset calls ARE possible, but they must be initiated by the handset making the call - you can't just pick up the extension.)

THE BAD:
*NO HEADSET JACK OR BLUETOOTH.Cordless phones should have some kind of handsfree option besides a speakerphone setting, but this one doesn't.I have a dedicated cordless headset, so this was not an essential feature for me.The handset's speakerphone works okay.
*CALLER ID DOESN'T DISPLAY THE PHONEBOOK NAME.This is pretty basic these days, but Uniden still hasn't caught up.When people listed in my Phonebook call me from a cell phone, I want their NAME to display, not just WIRELESS CALLER.This is not a deal breaker, but certainly an annoying oversight.

THE UGLY:
*THE ALERT THAT WOULDN'T DIE. Despite being able to turn all the sound alerts off, the phone still makes a loud and irritating BLURRRP! when you drop it into the charging cradle.Better not drop it in the bedroom cradle to charge while your spouse is sleeping.
*HOW DO I ...?To keep the phone sleek, some functions are a little more hidden than they should be.You will have to consult the manual to learn how to insert a pause into a Phonebook number, muting requires three button presses (You CAN mute the handsets, despite comments made elsewhere), and some phone settings are only available in certain modes, not universally available through the Menu button.Examples: Sound Enhancer is only accessible WHILE you are making a call, and Phonebook settings can only be made WHILE you are in the phonebook. There is a reason why a previous reviewer thought you couldn't have multi-handset conversations or couldn't mute the phone; you really have to read the manual. There are only a few of these hidden technical features though, and dang, the phone does look good.

I bought the version of this phone that includes an extra handset and charger.

Uniden CellLink ELBT595 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Flip Phone with Color LCD, Answering System, and Bluetooth Capability (Titanium) Review

Uniden CellLink ELBT595 5.8 GHz Digital Expandable Cordless Flip Phone with Color LCD, Answering System, and Bluetooth Capability
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was all hyped up about getting this phone and that feeling faded after only 24hrs of owning it. This phone represents a good try by Uniden, but I feel that it needs to go back for a version 2. First, for me, the ringers on this phone do not ring loud enough (with a few expectations)....Uniden does allow you to set the base station to ring, and it does ring loudly (too loudly at night) but that defeats the reason to have a cordless phone if you are attached to the base station all day. The LCD on the closed clamshell isn't very good. It is easier to read when the backlighting is off then when on. The hinge on my phone squeaked when opening and closing and the keys on the handset feel cheap, not what you should expect from at $250 phone. The software to program the phone is nice, easy to use, and made it really convenient to program in over 50 names and reminder dates, but it would have been nice if Uniden would have allowed you to download ringtones into the phone via the software and USB cable, rather then having to record it into the phone via a mic or a line setup. The color screen is nice and bright, but too small...its like 150 pixels X 150 pixels and the images you can download for your contacts become the size of a postage stamp CUT IN HALF!!Overall it is an average phone, not worth $250, maybe $160....all I know is mine is going back to the store for a refund. See you next time Uniden.

How Does Bluetooth Work?
Bluetooth technology has been incorporated into this phone to make it easy to communicate with either a Bluetooth-enabled cell phone or a wireless headset. You don't even have to think about it. Bluetooth doesn't require you to do anything special to make it work. The devices find each other and strike up a conversation without any user input at all. Now you can tap into your cell phone minutes to take advantage of your cellular plan, or just go hands-free using your land line for crystal-clear communication anywhere in the house.
How Does CellLink Work?
Uniden CellLink technology lets you easily take advantage of your cell phone's minutes. If you have a Bluetooth v1.1 compliant mobile phone and register it to the base, you can make or receive a call through your mobile line as well as your normal land line. To use your mobile line, press the Mobile soft key. The two lines will be completely independent on your ELBT595. For example, you can have one handset operating on the land line while another handset and the base unit participate in a three-way conference call on the mobile line. However, you cannot make or receive a land line call using a Bluetooth mobile phone, and a Bluetooth mobile phone will not ring when the ELBT595 receives a land line calI.

Easy, Powerful Features
Additional features include enhanced caller ID so you can see who's calling with a unique full color picture and distinctive ring. The digital answering system quickly access your answering system using your handset or your base. Volume settings adjust the ringer and speaker volumes on your handset. An advanced phonebook organizes your names and numbers, with special capabilities like storing four numbers per name and sorting names into groups.
You can easily update your phonebook settings using your computer with the USB connector and software included. Enjoy hands-free communication without wires using a Bluetooth headset or the hands-free speakerphone. Easily navigate features with a joystick and soft-key menus. Record your own ringer tones with the audio cable or handset microphone (cable included).
Compatible Handsets
This expandable base system is compatible with Uniden handset models ELX500, TCX400, TCX440, and TCX805. However, only the ELX500 is compatible the base system's Bluetooth and CellLink features.
What's in the Box

Uniden DECT 6.0 Compact Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle. Review

Uniden DECT 6.0 Compact Cordless Phone with Caller ID and Extra Handset and Charging Cradle.
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this particular phone because it was the only one that has all of the features I needed for my home office phone -- voicemail indicator, belt clip, earphone jack, speakerphone -- as well as the usual things like speed dialing and Caller ID. (I was surprised at how few phones come without answering machines now.) This phone was easy to set up and program. The handsets can send copies of speed dial numbers to each other. It's also a nice-looking phone that doesn't take up much space on the desk. The microphone in the handset is not very good. My voice sounds overmodulated to people I'm talking with. I usually use a headset, though, so that's not a huge issue for me. One very strange thing I have discovered is that the Caller ID on this phone does not interface with the programmed numbers, so if someone who's in my list of speed dial numbers calls me, their name is not displayed. I've never had a phone that did not recognize programmed numbers, so I find this very strange. I contacted Uniden about it, and they say this is the normal operation for this phone. This is probably the biggest con from my point of view, because my coworkers are all at another location, and I would like to be able to greet them by name when I answer the phone. It's not enough to make me take back the phone, because this is still the only phone that has all of the other features I want. But I do find it very strange that any phone would not have this feature. I always thought it was standard. Everything else about it appears to work well.

Vtech Trimline White Review

The troubles with cell phones not working after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and the power blackout in 2003 made clear the advantage of a corded land-line telephone in emergencies. There have also been repeated problems with expensive combination telephone/answering machines where one stops working so the whole thing has to be replaced. The frequent and annoying static on various cordless telephones was the last straw so I ordered this telephone over four years ago and have really enjoyed using it.

The backlit dial pad is nice and the easy access to controls for ring and handset volume is great.I don't use the memory dial or emergency buttons but they could be useful if someone has trouble dialing numbers or uses a calling card for long distance. You don't need any instructions to use the basic features, just plug it in, lift off the base and dial, which is a nice change from fancy electronics that take an hour to set up.The handset itself is well-balanced and feels substantial in the hand without being too heavy. The buttons have the right amount of "give".

Overall, this is a nice little telephone, simple and reliable.

A great accessory is this little thing-a-ma-jig that keeps the cord from getting tangled: AT&T 91078 Cord Detangler - 3 Pack (Clear)

I've owned this phone since May of 2008.It's really a superb model. The cordless twins really make it much easier to get to and handle calls. The caller ID and number function enables me to know what calls to accept and which ones to ignore. The answering system works really nicely and can store a lot of message and many messages. You can load up a directory of up to 50 contacts and the phone stores as many as the last 50 numbers to have called so that you can dial back easily if necessary.

I have no complaints about this phone.I studied it carefully before I purchased it.It is a delight to own such an outstanding model.I will remember AT&T in the future if and when I am in need of new telephone equipment. This one is certainly top notch.

EDIT to the review: I have recently discovered that batteries for the handsets are very hard to find.So hard that I gave up and bought another phone system.I'm not allowed to change the actual rating for this product, but consider it to be lowered to 3 stars.

My phone's display doesn't light up, like the other reviewer noted. It makes it almost impossible to read the display. The sound quality is poor; I have to tell callers to lower their voice or they sound distorted. This phone is used as an extension in one of my bedrooms; so I'll keep it but it's just for convenience sake so I can answer the phone if it rings while I'm in that room. This phone is not made for long conversations. I guess you get what you pay for when you buy a $10.00 phone.

In fairness, I am a new Vonage customer, having signed up April 27, 2009.Within 48 hours after signing up, I received this new adapter (paid $9 and change for it - was a Vonage deal) and hooked it up to an ethernet switch.Hooked up a corded phone to the device, and had dial tone.I kept this hook-up for 3 weeks, making LOTS of phonecalls and sending faxes to be sure I was ready to say bye-bye to my Verizon landline ($42 a month and never touch the phone for an outgoing call because of the costs involved).I have a networked setup:Modem --> Wired Router --> Ethernet Switch --> Vonage adapter.(I also have a wireless access point connected to my wired router, just to be precise.)
There are 3 PCs hard-wired and 1 wireless laptop. My cable provider is Cablevision (Optimum Online) at 10Mbps down and 3Mbps up.

Service is great. You could not tell between Vonage or the landline. The only issue I had was with faxing via my Canon MP780 all-in-one (outgoing faxes would not complete), and that wound up being just a matter of shutting down and re-starting my Canon. If you have this issue, please do not make yourself crazy changing your fax baud rates or ECM to off until you shut down your fax, remove all cables, replace cables and restart your fax. When I changed my baud rate from 33000 to 9600 because of many, many threads on the net, my fax capability was completely crippled. Now, it works great. And I don't have a dedicated fax line, it's done through my regular voice VOIP line.

After the 3 weeks, we cancelled the landline, disconnected the incoming Telco lines from the house, and then plugged the Vonage adapter into our phone jacks which back-feeds the signal through all of the phone jacks.

I have spoken to customer service for matters relating to my office (which also uses Vonage on 3 lines) and customer service has always been helpful and polite and there pretty much without a wait. Nice to have them available 24 hours, 7 days a week, if you did need them (better have a cell phone too though -- duh!)

I also have the line split and going to my Dish Network ViP722 DVR, which enables the ViP722's on-screen caller id. (So it is compatible--could not confirm this prior to trying it myself.)

As for complaints from others about bad sound quality, please realize that the service will be as good as your internet connection. If you don't have a stable, strong connection -- do not bother with VOIP.And, DSL filters can interfere with the signal, so read up on that. And never, ever plug these adapters into telephone jacks that still have Telco lines connected to them outside -- you can short out your equipment.

I got the $9.95 a month for 3 months deal, and thereafter it will be $24.99 (approx. $32 with tax).I did not port my home telephone number because the Vonage site informed me it was not available, but I was able to search through loads of telephone numbers and pick one that was memorable.Yes, I am in it for 2 years or I will fax a $39.99 disconnect fee. But, as far as I concerned, Verizon violated me for years with its fees and nickel-and-diming for every feature and call.I have to say that I wanted to try Vonage when it first came out, but was hesitant.Since my office has had it for over 2 years now, I decided to just do it myself.

Besides the many features listed on the website, you have access to alpha features like Vonage Fax (free outgoing faxes through your PC) and Vonage Talk.

Also, others here have complained that your trial starts as soon as you order, even though you don't have your adapter yet -- but you immediately can make calls through your computer with a headset. They assign a temporary number if you are porting your own, and the service and online features are instantly accessible.

And, as for the disconnect fee of $39.95, it's still less than what your cell phone provider would charge, so what's the big deal? You can't have everything.

Oh, the adapter...forgot what I was reviewing! The adapter is great. You have an orange backlit screen that shows the date and whether you have missed calls. It has built in caller-id, and you can initiate a call-back right from the adapter itself (your home phone will ring to tell you it's calling the number back). It has some other features too, like calling weather and traffic for free, and you can call your voicemail too.

Highly recommended. If you want to try it, try to do so without porting your number (check if you can port it free after you're sure it works well for you.)Try it risk-free (but keep an eye on the calendar!).

Panasonic KX-TG5633B 5.8 GHz FHSS GigaRange Digital Cordless Answering System with Three Handsets Review

I have been using Panasonic's phones for about 15 years now.I have always thought they had good products that lasted a long time, and there were always great features such as the speakerphone in the handsets, fun ringtones, etc.But one thing that irked me to death was the caller-ID functionality.I live in an area where the area code is required to dial all calls. The old phones attached 1's to everything that came through on the caller ID and you had to go through a complicated "editing" process to be able to call back a number that was on your caller ID.FINALLY Panasonic has addressed this and WOW, it WORKS!You simply go to the number on the caller list and push talk and it dials.Hooray!Additionally, if you have entered a number in your phone directory, it will apply the name info you entered to the information coming through on the caller id.You can even set special ring-tones or a designated light color to flash on the antennae for certain callers.Unnecessary but a cool bonus to me!

Another feature that I like, with this being the first multi-handset phone I have purchased, is the ability to build a phone directory into one phone and send it to the other phones in the house remotely. Also, you only need to access one phone line with the main base unit. For the other two phones, you simply plug the base units into the electrical outlet for charging and POOF, you are hooked up!

These phones are sleek, light-weight, have great sound reception, AND we have tested the speaker function both up close and at a distance, even next to the fridge for interference, and the sound quality is impeccable.

This phone system is a great product and an excellent value for the price.I would recommend it to anyone wanting to go cordless all over their house with quality handset units.Panasonic has come a LONG way in the last 5 years with their phone products.

Panasonic KX-TGA600B 5.8 GHz Expandable Digital Cordless Handset (Black) Review

This is only the third cordless phone I have ever owned. All three have been Panasonics, with the first one being bought 16 years ago. The first one died after a bad fall, and the second was retired to purchase this current phone system (multiple handsets), that is being used on a Vonage phone system (love it). These new phones have Voice Enhancer (VE), which really makes a difference by canceling out background noise. I also like the antenna-less design. It has a large phone directory that works similar to cell phone directories. It also has a built in speaker phone in the handset that makes retrieving voice mail very simple as you don't have to put the phone up to your ear to hear the next prompt. All-in-all a great phone.

This is an excellent phone set. I've had this set for last 6 months now.

The voice is crystal clear, crisp quality.

Even the speakerphone is so good. Another good thing is that you can use the phone on speakerphone while also charging the battery at the same time. That was an important factor for me as I've to be on conf calls for several hours.

Range is quite good too for this cordless. Also, no interference with any other devices in home.

Panasonic KX-TG2700S 2.4 GHz DSS Expandable Cordless Speakerphone with Caller ID Review

I just returned this phone after owning it for two weeks. The actual phone was decent enough...good layout and good sound. What I hated was the caller_id...for some reason the caller_id only displayed after two or three rings...way too late and not much time before the phone rolled into voicemail.
I called Panasonic 1-800 about the slow caller_id and they admitted customers complained about it.They gave me a few setting to try changing on my phone.I performed the suggestions but no change for my slow caller_id...so I returned the phone...

We purchased our VTECH, Model DS4122-3, telephone a few weeks ago; and so far it has worked great. It has single line operation and three handsets. The speaker phone feature seems to work well.It has an attractive contemporary appearance that reminds me of the way cell phones used to look. The numbers are large - easy to see and easy to dial.It has a distinct, pleasant, easy-to-hear ring.We have not yet tried all the features, such as caller ID, conferencing, and call waiting.Time will tell how well this telephone works, but so far I am very pleased.
