Panasonic KXTGA400B 2.4GHz Accessory Handset for KXTG4000B Expandable Phone (Black) Review

I bought this for my home office - we have 2 home lines, a fax/dsl and a business line.This phone pretty much does it all - you can answer each line with a different outgoing message, set up mail boxes for different people, and even have different lines ring on different handsets, or not ring at all (i.e. the fax).The range is very good (I can usually get it to go about 400 feet outdoors in a suburban neighborhood).The handsets are pretty much the same size as the Panasonic 2.4mHz standard.Battery life seems fine.
My biggest peeve is that you can't use 2 handsets on the same line at the same time (I guess that is what the extension is for) and that one of the four handsets we got refuses to work properly - something with the battery, but Panasonic has been pretty helpful.

Siemens S45 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone Extension Handset Review

Siemens S45 DECT 6.0 Digital Cordless Phone Extension Handset
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased 3 of the S45 handsets and a S450 base approx 2 months ago and every phone has performed flawlessly.Before buying the system I read reviews of numerous phones, went to stores to hold the handsets of many of the phones, and reviewed the literature on the manufacturers' websites.In the end, I bought this phone with the belief that it would probably have issues, but I could always return it to Amazon if it did.Needless to say, the only complaint is from my wife who initially complained that the phones were so robust that it was difficult to figure them out -- while this may seem true, think of these phones as a close relation to a cell phone.

Regarding the complaints I have read; let me address the following ones:

1. ISSUE: It is impossible to switch from 1 call to another with call waiting -- you have to hang up on the existing caller.SOLUTION: Simple, depress the "Flash" button on the lower left corner of the phone and easily switch between 1 caller and another.Additionally, this phone has the ability to take an incoming call and immediately conference it in with your existing call -- a great feature if your usage is SOHO.

2. ISSUE: When using with a DSL line the quality of the call is sub par.SOLUTION: Any phone that is used with a DSL line is suppose to be used in conjunction with a DSL phone line filter -- these should be used with every phone jack which is utilized throughout a home.

3. ISSUE: Cannot mute a caller, rather the mute operation places the person on hold.SOLUTION: This is a true shortcoming of a phone, but not a problem for me.Whenever I need to mute a call it is usually because I am multitasking and when multitasking I always wear a headset, so I just mute the headset and viola, nobody can hear me but I can hear them.

4. ISSUE: A standard headset does not work on the phone.SOLUTION: I do not know what the problem is since I read the manual and a Plantronics headset is approved for use with the phone.While the approved headset is not easily found here, I have 3 different type Plantronics headsets and all work flawlessly.One recommendation, though, the sound quality of this phone is better than anything you have probably ever used (this goes for outgoing voice too), as such, you need to purchase a headset that has a microphone with adjustable volume and use the lowest setting.Otherwise, the person on the other end may complain that your voice is gargled.

5. ISSUE: The phone is light and cheap feeling.SOLUTION: I do not know about you, but I do not want to carry around a 5 lb. metal phone just because it feels substantial.When I am on the move in my home I like to clip the phone to me and the lighter the better.With reference to feeling cheap, the phone is well made, has solid keys and a color screen -- ergo, I do no see anything "cheap" about it.

6. ISSUE: The buttons often miss or skip numbers.SOLUTION: If you are used to a cheap phone, then you will have this problem -- a cheap phone has keys that can be depressed with barely touching the pad.A well made phone, on the other hand, requires you to fully depress the key pad.Does this mean you cannot type numbers as quickly ... the answer is "yes" if you insight on wanting to only brush your hand against the key pad rather than fully depressing the key.

7. ISSUE: "This has to be the most frustrating phone ever when it comes to messages. You are forced to listen to the female voice say the date and time (Which is visible right on the screen, so no need to say it), and then to skip to the next message you HAVE to hear all of it again. It would have been much better to be able to skip the voice over or make it an option to turn it off."SOLUTION: This sounds like a user voicemail issue as the phone does not speak, maybe some other Siemens does.It does, however, allow you to set the "1" key to speed dial your home voicemail -- just like your cell number.And you can program in pauses, so when depressing and holding the "1" key or checking voicemails from the blinking voicemail indicator, you need only press one button.

8. ISSUE: The message light does not work.SOLUTION: The phones have a message light and it works -- I have used the phone in our house and recommended it to a friend in another state who uses another carrier (between the 2 of us we have 7 phones and all work).Make certain your carrier provides the service as some do not and some carrier is some areas offer this as an option.

9. ISSUE: The built in clock is inaccurate.SOLTUION: I have none as this is true.For some unknown reason Siemens decided not to allow the phone to obtain time stamp information from the incoming calls, so the phone loses time -- about 1 minute every 5 to 7 days.Does this annoy me enough to not buy the phone: "No"?My $3,000 computer system does not automatically update its clock from the internet, though it is more accurate.Needless to say, I would not junk my computer; besides, when was the last time you relied solely on your home phone to tell time???

In short, this phone has more capabilities than I can list here.It does take some time to figure it all out, but once you have you will wonder how you ever lived with another phone.Lastly, the audio quality of the phone rivals anything you have every used before.

Panasonic KX-TGA650B 5.8GHZ Expandable 2-Line Handset for use with KX-TG6500B/6502B (Black) Review

Panasonic KX-TGA650B 5.8GHZ Expandable 2-Line Handset for use with KX-TG6500B/6502B
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have owned many cordless phones ever since the 1st 46/49 Mhz phones came to market.I've owned Vtec's, Uniden's etc.
After hours of research, I bought this 2 line Panasonic.I've had it for about one year now, so I can give you areview based upon a good period of time owning it.

Here's the very basic reasonwhy I selected this model:

1- Two lines
2-Expandable
3-5.8 gig frequency so it doesn't interfere with 2.4 gig device in my home.

Here's why it's the best cordless I've ever owned.

1- I could test it out for awhile before adding/investing in addtional handsets.

2- It fits in your hand like a normal phone.Many of the new cordless phones are getting so high tech looking and sleek that they are either hard or uncomfortable to hold.The Panasonic handset is the most comfortable on the market.Ever try cradling a cell phone or too small cordless between you neck and shoulder for a moment while you pick something up from the floor?Not easy, unless of course it's this phone.

3- The part of the phone that touches your ear is designed properly.Many of they newer competitors phones are convex at the earpiece instead of concave.Very uncomfortable...Panasonic...Perfect!!

4-Big LCD display.No need to squint to see this one.

5-Normal sized and properly spaced keypad buttons that are raised.You won't make an accidental dialing mistake with this phone and you won't feel like you need a pen to dial it.

6-You can set the volume of the phone to retain the setting you like.On many of the competitions phones, you may have to adjust the vol. to where you like it, every time you pick it up.

7-Great, very CLEAR sounding speakerphone built into each handset. Very useful when holding for i.e. a customer service dept.

8- Natural sounding on receive side.Good volume and sound reported by people I'm talking to. (Many competitors phones I've tried have low receive and/or transmit volume).On this one, no one has ever asked me, "Are you on the cordless"

9-Very rare that I ever get a broken or choppy signal.It's solid.It even works 100% around my yard/outside.

9-Good battery life/runtime.

10-Loaded with features.Like the fact that if something went wrong or one phone broke, my directory is still in other handset I have if I selected to download them initially to other phones.

11- Durable!!We have dropped this phone from about 3+ feet many times and it has not broken yet.

What needs improvement:

1- Missed call indication is almost useless.To clear it you MUST scroll through Caller ID past the missed call to clear it.Not a big deal...just useless.

2- (On the built in Voicemail)I can't save messages "as new" once I've listended to them.Problem if my wife is not home; then I see the message light blinking, I press it to listen to message.Of course the message turns out to be for my wife.But, now that I've listened to it, the message lamp is extinguished...Wife returns and has no idea there is a message for her.I have to leave her a note telling her to manually listen to "saved messages".

3- No battery backup.This was one feature I liked in some of the older VTEC phones.In a power failure, the battery backup let you continue to use your cordless phones.I don't think Panasonic or any other manufac. has a cordless 2 line with Battery backup.

So if you are looking for a great cordless 2 line... This is the one!!Almost perfect, but a definate against the competition.

AT&T DECT 6.0 Black/Silver Digital 4-Handset Answering System (CL82409) Review

AT&T DECT 6.0 Black/Silver Digital 4-Handset Answering System
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When researching our next cordless, expandable phone system, I found that AT&T and Panasonic phones were getting the best reviews. My requirements were as follows:

1.Phone system must not interfere with my wireless network;
2.Phone base must be wall mountable;
3.Phone base must have an answering machine that would also provide an audible message alert (and a message count would also be nice);
4.Speakerphone on the handsets and base;
5.A shared, central phone book.
6.A Voicemail indicator (for phone company/VOIP voicemail);
7.A lighted number pad.

I spend about 3 weeks researching over 30 models and browsing manuals.I originally was going for a 5.8GhZ AT&T model (#E5924) that I later found was also operating on a 2.4GhZ frequency that may have interfered with my wireless network, as my current 2.4GhZ cordless does (it slightly impairs my wireless network speed).So, I scratched that model, and all the 5.8GhZ category, and decided to find a Dect 6.0 just to avoid any potential problems.

Very feature-rich were nearly all of the Panasonic models, with Talking Caller ID and ringer ID.But, how they can advertise as wall-mountable I don't know.I checked the manuals for the models I was most interested in, and every single model mounted like a shelf. Very unappealing.And none had an audible message alert.Panasonic phones mostly have a blinking light to inform you of messages.I had an older Panasonic model years ago and always missed messages because of the lack of an audible alert.This combined with the ugly wall-mounting made me have to scratch Panasonic off of my list.Shame, because I really liked the features (Talking Caller ID, Ringer ID, Light ID, Caller ID Block).

I found many reviews touting the AT&T SL82418 Dect 6.0 system.Apparently Consumer Reports had highly rated this model and everyone ran out to buy it.It's wall-mountability was acceptable (still not flat on the wall, but not overly extending like the shelf-like Panasonics). It's features satisfied all of my requirements (though it did not have the bells and whistles of the Panasonics, which I still had on my mind).But -- and this may seem silly -- I found the phone system itself ugly.Silver and gray with black backs.Way too much going on.

Instead of looking new, to me they looked gaudy and old-fashioned.The phones themselves looked sleek and stream-lined, but AT&T's choice of using more than 1 color on the front just ruined it (in my opinion).Amazon informed me there was a newer model out, the CL82409, which was far more attractive to me.Simple silver handsets with black backs.Base is simple silver and black also.LCD screens and back light is orangey instead of blue.I was put off by the lack of reviews on the newer model, but when I checked the manuals, found very little difference between it and the previous SL82418 model, except:

1.No headset jack;
2.You CAN check the ans. machine messages from the handsets (cannot do this on the SL82418.
3.The base does not mount as flat and is a little shorter/more compact.

So, I canceled my order for the SL82518 (a five handset system instead of 4 handsets) and placed an order for the CL82509 system. Set up was simple (after 16 hour charging).

Pros:

*I use Vonage (disconnected the incoming Telco lines and have Vonageback-fed through every phone jack in the house) and the sound is crystal clear with these phones.

*You can check the caller id log when the phone is in use (not all phone systems allow this), and the display shows the time and date always (also a rarity).

*You can listen to the answering machine messages from any handset even when the phone is in use.

*The numbers are etched through the silver on the handset buttons, and the amber light shines through them clearly.Nice for nighttime dialing;

*No interference from the microwave, or network, and all phones crystal clear from the basement to the 2nd floor.

*Very easy to save caller id entries into the shared phone book.Saves the last 50 caller id entries and 50 phone book entries.

*I have the answering machine set to 4 rings, and if I don't answer the caller ID or the phone is busy, my Vonage voice mail will take the
message, after which the Voicemail LCD lights up on the base and there is an indicator on the handset LCD.

*When the answering machine takes a message, there is an audible beep every so often that reminds you of the message (you can disable the audible alert if this bothers you -- again, I find this useful and necessary) and the base will show you how many messages you have.

*Easy to do a three-way call using the flash button.

*Intercom is easy.

*Handset speakers are nice and clear with good volume;

*Handset ringers are nice and loud;

*This system is expandable up to 12 handsets, and the handsets themselves are decently priced.

Cons:

*No headset jack;

*No speakerphone in base (can only hear incoming messages andanswering machine messages);

*Wall-mounting is not flat to the wall, extends approximately 4 inches at the bottom.Not a big deal if you have it mounted where no one will walk into it.

*Can not assign ring tones to names in your directory. Even my old Radio Shack did that.I could almost stop thinking about the Panasonics' Talking Caller ID if I were at least able to assign ring tones to certain names so I'd know who it was calling by the ring tone.

*Handsets feel light to me.That may be a Pro in time but still have to get used to it.

All-in-all, minor quibbles. I would recommend this system, unless you don't care about the audible message alert and/or wall mounting, in which case I'd try a Panasonic for the neat features (Talking Caller ID, etc.).

Whatever you decide, make sure you Google the manual before buying.I found many websites gave either incorrect information regarding features or left out key features entirely.
