Panasonic Dect 6.0 Silver Cordless Phone with Answering Machine (KX-TG1031S) Review

Panasonic Dect 6.0 Silver Cordless Phone with Answering Machine

We have been using this cordless phone for about a month now and have had no problems with it.Display is clear and lights up, sound quality is fine, and the programming is straightforward.I downgraded my phone service to save some $, so this answering machine replaces the voicemail feature I eliminated (plus we needed a phone that shows caller ID anyway).Caller ID displays on ring #2, and the digital answering machine works well.I am VERY pleased with this purchase and its affordable price: for what I save on my phone service downgrade in one month, I have a new phone/answering machine.

Channel Plus DMT16 Telephone Distribution Module Review

Channel Plus DMT16 Telephone Distribution Module
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the Channel Plus DMT-16 Telephone Distribution Module to rewire the phone lines in my ~50 year old house. Our old 2-line phone system had been cobbled together over the years and was plagued with lots of crosstalk and line noise that interfered with my ADSL Internet connection and even with normal telephone conversations at times.I had previously wired my home for a computer Ethernet network, but had no other significant experience with wiring prior to using the DMT-16.

I replaced all of the phone wiring with Cat 5 (actually "Cat 6"), 23 gauge, solid conductor, unshielded twisted pair computer network wiring, and added several new phone jacks using 12 of the DMT-16's 16 potential locations. We only have 2 phone lines, but the DMT-16 allows for up to 4 lines. The DMT-16 uses a type of connection called a 110 punchdown connection. The connection between the DMT-16 and the phone wire is made with a simple 110 punchdown tool (not included) that is very easy to use, and does not require stripping the insulation off of the wires. Each connection on the DMT-16 is clearly color-coded for use with computer wire making the wiring scheme easy to keep straight.I used "tooless" jacks on the other ends of the wires that don't require the punchdown tool and actually preferred the secure feel of the DMT-16's connections.

The DMT-16 includes a simple labeling system where you can clearly and easily label each wire for future reference. It has separate mounting brackets for either a dedicated rack mount or for a wall mount. The instructions were clear and useful, but they do seem to presuppose a certain preexisting level of knowledge with phone wiring.I was easily able to find any additional instructions and tips that I needed on the Internet with no other outside help.

I connected the DMT-16 to our home alarm system using its RJ-31X security system interface.Typical telephone "6P6C" jacks are often called "RJ-11" and "RJ-12" jacks (depending on how the 6P6C jack is wired), and they have 6-positions for 6-contacts.The RJ-31X security system jack uses an 8P8C computer Ethernet jack that is wired in the RJ-31X pattern for the alarm system.I had to make a cable to reach from the alarm system controller to where I wanted to place the DMT-16, but it was no harder than wiring the phone lines. When the alarm system is triggered, the RJ-31X connection on the DMT-16 allows the alarm system to "seize" the line to contact the alarm company's monitoring office.I tested the RJ-31X connector on the DMT-16 and it works fine.

The DMT-16 also adds surge protection for the phone lines, and it has indicator lights to show which lines are in use.

I found using the DMT-16 the easiest part of my rewiring project.Since wiring our house with the DMT-16 we no longer have crosstalk between the two lines, and the "sizzling bacon" line noise that we suffered from is gone.I wired the ADSL line directly from the modem to a special whole house filter/splitter in the telephone company's Network Interface Device bypassing the DMT-16 (thereby eliminating the need for DSL filters on each phone inside the house), but I did try the DSL Internet connection through the DMT-16 prior to installing the splitter and it worked fine.I recommend the Channel Plus DMT-16 Telephone Distribution Module for do-it-yourselfers.

I specifically looked at this model because of the Bluetooth capability and the initial pairing and the call quality are great. Here are my two gripes that ultimately lead me to take the unit back after trying it for a couple of weeks:

1) You can only have 1 active bluetooth phone paired at a time. Most phones that support this allow for at least 2 paired devices.

2) The auto-pair technology. This was the deal breaker. The idea is the unit will reconnect with your phone should you take it away and bring it back. That works only under one condition - that you don't actually use a bluetooth headset with the cell phone in the meantime.Because I use a bluetooth headset when I am in the car, everytime I would return home there would be no connection and I would have to go through and manually pair the unit again. This became highly annoying after a few days and finally did me in.

So, the phone itself worked great and had clear reception both in cordless mode as well as in cell mode, but if you are shopping specifically for the bluetooth feature, then you might need to keep looking.

V-Tech CS6129-41 Four Handset Cordless Phone System with Digital Answering Device and Caller ID (Silver) Review

V-Tech CS6129-41 Four Handset Cordless Phone System with Digital Answering Device and Caller ID
Average Reviews:

My last couple of phones have been made by Panasonic. I've recommended them to others and everyone has been happy with it but over the years they all have had the same general problem: the buttons become unreliable or require you to press really hard to get some digits to dial. I researched several models for quite a while, checking prices online and looking at them in stores. The features that are important to me are single entry phone book which propagate to all phones, speakerphone, intercom, easy caller ID viewing and redial, a sturdy phone that isn't too tiny to make it hard to hold, a small base station that doesn't take up a lot of counter space and of course good wireless range. This phone meets all of these requirement and the buttons feel like they will last a long time. They also have a magnify type lens on the buttons that make it easier to read the small letters associated with each button.[...].

AT&T 2-Line Corded Telephone with Caller ID and Speakerphone - 992 Review

AT&T 2-Line Corded Telephone with Caller ID and Speakerphone - 992
Average Reviews:

I bought two of these phones to replace some that were the same brand. The old phones worked well but their call waiting feature did not work everytime and you could not review the call list, it would only scroll foward, not in reverse. The new phones have a nicely lit display and the call list will work in both directions, but I have discovered that if you push the numbers too quickly, your call may not go through. The display will register that you hit the number but apparently it doesn't "dial" it. Pushing the buttons more slowly seems to correct the problem. The phones have a nice price and if you're not a high speed button pusher, they work well.

Brother CTS-410-ES 900 MHz Digital Quattro 4-line Executive Phone System with Caller ID Review

Brother CTS-410-ES 900 MHz Digital Quattro 4-line Executive Phone System with Caller ID
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After installing this system including the base unit, caller ID unit, 900Mz cordless broadcast unit, and 2 handsets, we found the base unitto work well enough.
However, if you plan on using the cordless capabilities, you will be very disappointed. The people on the other end of the line will swear that you sound like you are on a cell phone with constant breaking up and static.Try dialing a number is next to impossible on the handsets as well, because half of the numbers you hit will not register as tones when you hit them even though they display on the LCD.
After 3 days of frustration, we bought the Panasonic KX-TG4000B 2.4GHz Four-line System and we are extremely pleased with only ONE base unit that does the work of the Brother's 3 separate systems. Also, the longer range with the 2.4 GHz compared to the 900Mz is appreciated by all.
If you are looking for a 4-Line Base unit and nothing more, this unit might work for you.I have an extra one to sell (only 3 days of use).
